The bone marrow transplant will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Debra said that Racheal will be in the hospital there for 4-6 months after the transplant.

Racheal is what her mother refers to as a “sassy spirit.” “She loves riding her bike, fishing and the outdoors,” said Debra. “But she’s definitely a sassy spirit. She’s positive and upbeat and full of life and energy. And that’s how her doctors gauge how she is feeling; if she’s not being sassy, they know that she’s not feeling good.”

The Gordon County Board of Commission­ers Work Session felt more like a day at the ball fields as Gordon County 8U girls and boys teams, both of which won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Associatio­ns state championsh­ips were on hand to show off their trophies and medals.

“We’re very proud of our teams,” Don Holley, Director of Parks and Recreation said. He added this was the first time the girls had won state.

During t he work session, the commission­ers also heard from Dana Burch, Tax Assessor.

“The digest is down, less than onepercent,” she told the commission­ers. “The main hit was personal property.”

She said several accounts, including Shaw Carpets and Surya Carpets, went to Bartow County. Another account, Case New Holland, closed two years ago, but until this year, had maintained property, such as inventory and machinery in Gordon County. The gross digest for 2017 is $ 2,023,951, 097, down $ 598,228 or less than one- percent from 2016.

“Personal property is so volatile,” she explained. Burch added that the tax assessor’s office had corrected deficienci­es stemming from audits by the Department of Revenue. She said the audits are done every three years and the deficits could result in significan­t fines to the county if not corrected. The deficits were from not assessing enough properties.

“We’re proud of fixing that deficiency,” she said, adding that the highest a county could score was 40 and Gordon County was at 39.81 for assessed value. The office visits roughly 9,066 parcels a year out of a total of
