Local teams get Fall season rolling with busy schedules

For the boys team, Chandler Huffman finished the day with a 51, Micah Stanfield added a 57, Matthew Spence threw in a 59 and Caleb Freeman rounded things out with a 60. The group combined to score of 227 points.

-Calhoun’s golf team squared off against Red Bud, Cartersvil­le and Adairsvill­e at the Fields Ferry Golf Course on Tuesday.

Ethan Lunsford led the charge for the boys team, finishing just two shots over par. Beau Black followed by going five shots over par, Jacob Tolson completed his round at six over and Conner Miles’ day ended at nine over.

The Lady Jackets also competed, with Raigh posting the lowest score, and Lissa Lain Coffman and Alyza Parrott tying for the next best tally.

The Red Bud Middle School golf team was also in action as the host of Calhoun, Cartersvil­le and Adairsvill­e at the Fields Ferry. Top scorers for the boys team included Noah Caldwell, Easton Childs, Alec Strickland and Jasper Johns. Catie Hulsey and Janey Kate King posted successful rounds for the Lady Phoenix.

Softball

-The Red Bud Middle School Lady Phoenix collected an important early-season victory against the Woodland last Thursday, Aug. 17, topping the Wildcats 8-1.

Madison Abernathy, Arielle Evans and Daelynn Cochran all contribute­d 2-for-3 nights at the dish. Taylor Long, Grace Crocker and Taylor Dotson all added at least one hit. Backed by plenty of run support, Long recorded a no-hitter in the pitcher’s circle, punching out 12 batters and allowing only one walk. Woodland recorded their only run due to a fielding error.

-The Red Bud junior varsity was also victorious that afternoon, beating Woodland 7-2. Reese Davis, Kayleigh Kelley, Rebecca Triplett, Braylee Moore and Ava Lambert all provided hits. Triplett got the start at pitcher, striking out three batters in two innings, and Reese Davis closed things out inside the circle and preventing a Wildcats rally.

-The Ashworth Lady Warriors picked up a 9-8 win over Rome on Wednesday, August 16.

Volleyball

-The Lady Phoenix volleyball squad trav- eled north to square off against Dalton. After cruising through the first set, the A team dropped the second set 25-23 before battling out of a quick 7-0 deficit and capturing the third set 25-22 to claim victory.

The A Team moved to 2-1 overall on the season. They had previously beaten Bagley in three sets, but dropped a contest against Pickens County.

Football

-The Red Bud Phoenix junior varsity football team snagged a huge early-season victory by taking down the Ashworth Warriors 42-0 on Tuesday.
