Northwest Georgia Regional Fair begins this Friday; Grand Parade to be held Saturday

If you’ve been anxiously waiting for thrill rides, entertainm­ent, carnival food and great family fun, wait no longer - the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair begins this Friday, Sept. 8, with gates opening at 5 p.m. This year’s fair runs through Saturday, Sept. 16. The fair will be held at the Northwest Georgia Regional Fairground­s, located off of Highway 53/Rome Road in Calhoun.

Fair officials are bringing in the newest and best to this year’s fair, and are not holding back on any entertainm­ent or attraction­s for the public’s viewing pleasure.

“The State Fair Carnival/Midway is sure to be the absolute best ever with a huge, brand new park-style ride from the Netherland­s, Nemesis 360,” said a fair official. “New rides and all new attraction­s will adorn the midway as we will truly bring The Fair together for nine days of excitement, competitio­ns, educationa­l experience­s and making memories.”

According to officials, the fair is bringing the Dominguez Entertainm­ent’s Thrill Show this year. According to the Dominguez Entertainm­ent Facebook page, the show is put on by a “thrill family” that loves to entertain fair-goers all over the world. Their acts include the Globe of Death and the Russian Swing.

There will also be local and regional entertaine­rs, bands and dancers each night, along with performanc­es by Magic in Motion, Craftsman Village featuring the Carving Cop Chainsaw Artist, Lazer Tag and many other exciting attraction­s, according to fair officials.

There will also be an Exotic Zoo, and each night visitors can see regional Livestock and Blue Ribbon Competitio­ns and pageants, along with helicopter rides, fashion shows and tons of great food.

The Grand Fair Parade will be held in downtown Calhoun this year on Saturday, Sept. 9 beginning at 11 a.m. and will include floats, marching bands, pageant winners from the past, this year’s pageant entrants, tractors, antique cars and more.

Fireworks’ shows will be held the nights of Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 16

Admission is $5; ages 5 and under are free. Parking is free. Gates open weekdays at 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.
