ALR hosting 1st annual Community Day on Sept. 30
The American Legion Riders of American Legion Paul Gwin Post 47 in Calhoun will be hosting the first annual American Legion Riders Community Day on Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 11 a. m. at the Post, which is located at 401 West Line Street in Calhoun.
The event is being held to show appreciation to veterans, families of fallen soldiers and families of the communities. Proceeds from the event go to support veterans in the community and will also sponsor events the Post holds throughout the year for children in the community.
The Post is a large supporter of Gordon County Special Olympics and the ALR participates in rides to raise money for different fundraisers throughout the year. They also participate in Operation Comfort Warriors, which supplies wounded veterans who are hospitalized with the comforts of home the VA hospitals do not provide, such as socks and slippers.
The family- friendly event will have a dunking booth, water balloon toss, face painting and other games for kids. Tickets will be sold for different auction items throughout the day. There will be a cruise in for classic cars, bikes and trucks, along with live entertainment, as well as an open mic for anyone who would like to join in. Barbecue plates with sides will be sold for $ 8 per plate.
Booths are still available for any vendors who would like to participate. Booths are $ 20 each.
