Calhoun Pre-K receives donation from Farmers Insurance Thank a Million Teachers initiative

- By Brandi Owczarz

Farmers Insurance Mark Irwin Agency presented classroom supplies for the teachers of Calhoun Pre-k thanks to the Thank a Million Teachers initiative.

“As part of Farmers Insurance, we have a program called Thank a Million Teachers, where teachers can submit ideas for programs that they can implement into their classrooms, schools or school systems, and Farmers gives out different grants for those programs each year,” said Irwin. “We also have marketing dollars assigned we can use to better or support our local schools.”

Farmers Insurance Mark Irwin Agency presented chairs and school supplies, such as paper and laminate, for each teacher at Calhoun Pre-k.

“My wife, Angela, is a Pre-k teacher at Calhoun,” said Irwin. “Teachers make such a major impact on the lives of our children. I had a special teacher that made me into who I am today. She was the first one who ever taught me to learn for the joy of gaining knowledge and not just for picking out an a, b or c answer on a test. I went from a student that just did enough to get by to being in our schools gifted program, graduating with honors, graduating college and earning my masters degree. Teachers can make a profound difference in someone’s life.”

Farmers Insurance sees the importance of America’s teachers; the company strives to educate everyone about insurance; they train their agents at the University of Farmers, help identify common insurance gaps and more. America’s teachers give their time, talent and knowledge so children walk away smarter, more confident and better prepared for the future. Inspired by the great work of America’s teachers, Farmers created the Thank America’s Teacher’s initiative, which includes the Thank A Million Teachers program.

Irwin sees great importance in the program. “Many in our community do not even realize the needs of our local schools, or even if they can, or how to, donate.”

Throughout the year, Thank America’s Teachers and Farmers Insurance will give away more than $1 million in educational grants to the nation’s teachers, supporting proposals and exciting projects that make a difference.

This year, 180 teachers will receive $2,500 grants to fund projects in the classroom, and for those teachers who dream of making an even bigger impact, Farmers will award five $100,000 educational grants.

In the past, Farmers has spent millions of dollars funding programs like and indoor equestrian learning facility for special needs children and adults, a teen driving training course and literacy initiatives to help at-risk readers.

Farmers Insurance Mark Irwin Agency is located at 107 South Wall Street in downtown Calhoun. For more information on how you can give to your local schools, or to find out more about the Thank A Million Teachers program, call 706-403-2800 or visit www.farmers.com.
