Virginia Sloan
Mrs. Virginia “Snooks” Nance Sloan, age 89, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 2017 at the local hospital.
Virginia was born Aug. 17, 1928 in Whitfield County, a daughter of the late J. D. and Floy Dooly Nance. She was also preceded in death by her husband of sixtyone years, Billy Sloan, a sister, Joan Patterson and a brother, Stroud Nance. Virginia was a graduate of Valley Point High School and was retired from Dependable Rug where she worked until she was eighty years old. Virginia lived a quiet life that was defined by hard work. She was a very hard worker.
She is survived by her daughter, Gina Silvers of Dalton; son and daughter- in- law, Wayne and Cathy Sloan of Shelbyville, Tenn.; granddaughter and her husband, Hillery and Brandon Waldon; great-grandchildren, Branson and Jade Waldon all of Calhoun; sisters, Martha Lynn Edwards, Pat Franklin and Darlene Longley; brothers and sister- in- law, John R. Nance, J. D. “Bud” Nance and Dennis and Nina Nance all of Dalton; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Virginia “Snooks” Nance Sloan were held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 2 p. m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Jerry Smith and Chris Franklin officiating. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Fain Cemetery with Brandon Waldon, Ricky Barkley, Scott Edwards, Darren Edwards, Bruce Parrott and Christopher Franklin serving as pallbearers.
The family received friends at Ponders Calhoun Chapel after 11: 30 a. m. Saturday morning until the service hour.

Linda Aldridge
Linda Mae Aldridge, 74, of Calhoun, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at her home. She was born in Gordon County on Feb. 22, 1943, daughter of the late Oscar and Johnnie Belle Payne Howerton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Howerton, in 1994.
Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend. Most of all she loved the Lord. She was of the Church of God faith. She was employed with Cherokee Nursing Home as a CNA for several years.
Survivors include her son and daughterin- law, Dewayne and Karen Aldridge of Calhoun; her daughter and son- in- law, Janice and Ronald Gill of Calhoun; her brother and sister- in- law, Robert and Jamie Howerton of Rome; grandchildren, Michael and Nicole Davis, Harley Gill and Shannon Cline, Kimberly Aldridge, Pierce Aldridge, and Alyssa Aldridge; step- grandchildren, Deyonna Qualls, Ron Gill, and Wendy Martin; great- grandchildren, Briley Williams, Cian Davis, and Oli Gill; nine step- great grandchildren; and two great- great granddaughters. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Services to honor the life of Linda Mae Aldridge were held Monday, Sept. 11 at 10 a. m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Timms officiating. Music was arranged by Nathan Stinson. Interment followed in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving included Harley Gill, Michael Davis, Shawn Denton, Bobby Howerton, Jerry Aldridge, and Melvin Kimbrell. Special escorts were Pierce Aldridge, Alyssa Aldridge, Briley Williams, and Cian Davis.
The Aldridge family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 4 until 9 p. m.

Tony Miller
Waylon Anthony “Tony” Miller, age 63, of Plainville, passed away Wednesday Sept. 6 at his residence.
Tony was born on March 25, 1954 in Floyd County to the late Waylon Hyles Miller and Elaine Thelma Knight. Tony was a lifetime resident of Plainville, and was a volunteer for the Gordon County Fire Department for more than twenty years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Tony is survived by his brother, Ben Miller and his wife Donna of Plainville; step- brother, Michael Floyd of Atlanta; step- sister, Doe Steely and her husband Floyd of Jackson, Mississippi; and niece, Savanna Miller.
Services to celebrate the life of Tony Miller were conducted Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home.
The family received friends on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were David Roach, Steve Wright, Bo Nicholson, Doug Goswick, Scott Wilson, and Max Knight.

Clell Hamrick
Clell Silvers Hamrick, age 80, of Fairmount, gained her wings Sept. 9, 2017 at Cartersville Medical Center. Everyone loved her smile, laugh, and hugs which she gave so freely. Everywhere she went she spread love and laughter. She is truly happy to be reunited with “Pop Pop,” her soul mate Charles Hamrick.
Clell was born on March 29, 1937 in Tifton to the late Grady Silvers and Azzie Silvers. In addition to her parents and soul mate Charles Hamrick, she is preceded in death by many brothers, sisters and son- in- law, Russell Offutt. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Hamrick Alvis of Fairmount and Deborah Offutt of Calhoun; brother, Phenise Silvers of Colorado; two grandchildren, Kacee Offutt- Currence and her husband John and Erik Offutt; two greatgrandchildren, Kole Offutt and Ella Offutt; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 from 4 until 8 p. m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral service was conducted Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at 11 a. m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Fred McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Georgia at a later time. Honorary pallbearers serving were Butch Lambert, Tom Burton, Terry Fouts, Eddie Pack, Tom Yancey, Michael Yancey, Steve Yancey, Bobby Reeves, Rusty Langston and Steve Marshall.

Jack Morrow
Mr. Jack Junior Morrow, age 77, of Hill Street, Adairsville, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at his residence.
He was born in Adairsville on Nov. 6, 1939, son of the late Alvin E. “Clark” Morrow and Artis Mae Chamblee Morrow. Mr. Morrow was a member of New Life Ministries. Many knew him for his talent in sheet rocking and painting. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and listening to music, but most of all he loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Peggy Brown Morrow.
Survivors include his daughters and sonsin- law, Zina (Steve) Benton of Calhoun, Nena ( Glenn) Hunt of Adairsville, Savelle King of Adairsville, and Danita ( Terry) Wyatt of Plainville; sons and daughters- in- law, Ravee ( Lynn) Morrow of Adairsville, and Kyle ( Tessa) Morrow of Ranburne, AL; 13 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Morrow of Cedar Bluff, AL and Rev. Steve ( Donna) Morrow of Adairsville; sisters, Opal Gulledge of Adairsville and Audrey Wilson of Adairsville; several nieces and nephew.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 2 p. m. at New Life Ministries, Adairsville, with Rev. Kyle Morrow, Rev. Steve Morrow, and Rev Ed Pasley officiating. Interment will follow in Oothcalooga Baptist Church Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers included his grandsons, Brandon Coplin, Andrew Coplin, Hayden Morrow, Christopher Hunt, Eric Hunt, Trey Wyatt and Jake Benton.
