Lamb throws five TDs for Mountaineers; Frix handles UGA snaps
Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season. More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoraville can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.
Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:
TAYLOR LAMB Appalachian State, Calhoun
Lamb had a huge performance on Saturday in the Moutaineers’ 54-7 home win over Savannah State as the senior quarterback threw for 327 yards and five touchdowns on 12-of-15 passes. The five TD passes tied a school record despite Lamb only playing two quarters. He also ran for nine yards on three carries.
TRENT FRIX Georgia, Calhoun
Frix, a senior, handled long-snapping duties for the Bulldogs, including the game-winning 30-yard field goal by Rodrigo Blankenship with 3:34 to play in the fourth in their 20-19 victory at Notre Dame last Saturday night.
KENNY COOPER Georgia Tech, Sonoraville
Cooper, a sophomore, started at center in the Jackets’ 37-10 home win over Jackson- ville State last Saturday.
NOAH DAVENPORT Limestone College, Calhoun
Davenport, a freshman, got the start for the Saints at left guard in their 20-14 overtime home win against Benedict.
LANDON RICE Mississippi Gulf Coast, Calhoun
The freshman tight end Rice had two catches for 37 yards in the Bulldogs’ 49-10 loss at East Mississippi Community College last Thursday.
MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS Lane College, Gordon Central
Reynolds threw for a touchdown on 11-of-20 passing in the Dragons’ 24-10 loss at Morehhouse last Thursday. The junior quarterback also ran for 12 yards.
DREW McENTYRE The Citadel, Calhoun
McEntyre, a sophomore, started for the Bulldogs at right tackle in their 48-7 victory at Presbyterian last Saturday.
KAELAN RILEY Mercer, Calhoun
Riley threw for 167 yards on 14-of-28 passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the Bears’ 28-27 loss at home to Wofford last Saturday. The redshirt-freshman quarterback also ran for 14 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
JIREH WILSON Wofford, Calhoun
Wilson, a sophomore linebacker, had four assisted tackles in the Terriers’ 28-27 win at Mercer last Saturday.
CHANDLER CURTIS Mercer, Calhoun
Curtis, a senior, got the start at receiver for Mercer in their 28-27 loss to Wofford last Saturday. He was held without a catch by the Terriers’ defense but ran for three yards. He did most of his damage on returns as he returned two punts for a total of 58 yards and one kickoff for 18 yards.
DREW McCRACKEN Kennesaw State, Calhoun
McCracken, a junior, handled long-snapping duties for the Owls in their 27-14 win at home over Tennessee Tech last Saturday.
DJ PRATHER Chattanooga, Gordon Central
Prather, a senior defensive lineman, had one assisted tackle in the Mocs’ 45-10 loss at LSU last Saturday.
TRISTAN FULLER Sewanee, Calhoun
Fuller, a junior defensive lineman, had one solo and one assist for a total of two tack- les in the Tigers’ 63-30 loss at Washington and Lee last Saturday.
THOMAS LESTER West Georgia, Calhoun
Lester, a junior receiver, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Wolves’ 45-7 win at home over Miles last Saturday.
AUSTIN BYRD Kennesaw State, Calhoun
Byrd, a redshirt-junior tight end, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Owls’ 27-14 win at home over Tennessee Tech last Saturday.
