Peer-to-Peer is a 10-week course for an adult with a men­tal ill­ness and be­gins on Sept. 17. Both will be held from 2:00-4:30 on Sun­day af­ter­noons in Rome. The Oostanaula School Reunion will be held on Sun­day, Sept. 17 at the Old Oostanaula School­house, 1595 Oostanaula Bend Road SW, Cal­houn. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with a cov­ered dish lunch at 1 p.m. Drinks and pa­per goods will be fur­nished. Ev­ery­one is in­vited- all teach­ers, stu­dents, prin­ci­pals, fam­ily and friends. The Gor­don County Singing Con­ven­tion will hold the fall singing on Satur­day, Sept. 23, 2017, at Pleas­ant Hill Bap­tist Church. The church is lo­cated east of Cal­houn just off High­way 156/Red Bud Rd on Pleas­ant Hill Rd. Singers, di­rec­tors and specials are ex­pected from the sur­round­ing ar­eas. All singers and lis­ten­ers are in­vited to par­tic­i­pate. There will be a cov­ered dish meal at 5:30 p.m. fol­lowed by the singing at 6:30 p.m.

AARP Smart Driver - the new and en­hanced driv­ing re­fresher course from AARP Driver Safety will be of­fered at the Gor­don County Se­nior Cen­ter, lo­cated at 150 Cam­bridge Court in Cal­houn. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fri­day, Sept. 29, 2017. The class will be taught by Cer­ti­fied Vol­un­teer in­struc­tor Sheila Pow­ell. Since 1979, AARP Driver Safety has helped over 15 mil­lion older driv­ers stay safe, ed­u­cated and con­fi­dent be­hind the wheel. AARP Smart Driver Course par­tic­i­pants will learn: valu­able de­fen­sive driv­ing skills; proven safety strate­gies; how to stay cur­rent with the lat­est driv­ing tech­nolo­gies; the cur­rent rules of the road, spe­cific to your com­mu­nity, and how to man­age and ac­com­mo­date Com­mon age-re­lated changes in vision, hear­ing and re­ac­tion time. Par­tic­i­pants are en­cour­aged to check with their in­sur­ance agent to see if they are el­i­gi­ble for an in­sur­ance dis­count. There are no tests re­quired to pass the course. The course is open to driv­ers of all ages and costs $15 for AARP mem­bers and S20 for non­mem­bers. Please bring your mem­ber­ship card. Lunch will be on your own. Gor­don County Se­nior Cen­ter - The Nu­tri­tion Site Coun­cil will be hav­ing a BBQ Plate sell on Satur­day, Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw, cake. Price: $6 plate / $2.50 Sand­wich. Come out and sup­port us with this spe­cial fundraiser.

The Mil­i­tary Or­der of the Pur­ple Heart Rome Chap­ter 525, meets the first Mon­day of the month ex­cept hol­i­days at the Rome Na­tion Guard Ar­mory lo­cated at 340 Wil­shire Road at 6:00 P M. All veter­ans who have been awarded the Pur­ple Heart are el­i­gi­ble for mem­ber­ship and are in­vited to join. The Cal­houn Hous­ing Au­thor­ity Board of Com­mis­sion­ers meet on the fourth Wed­nes­day of each month for the reg­u­lar called Board Meet­ings at 12:00 p.m. Spe­cial Board meet­ings will be ad­ver­tised in ad­vance. All meet­ings are held at 607 Oothcalooga St. Cal­houn, Ge­or­gia. The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend. Call to ver­ify a meet­ing is sched­ule prior to at­tend­ing.

The Cal­houn Area Writ­ers meet ev­ery third Fri­day of the month at The Har­ris Arts Cen­ter from 6-7:30 p.m. The club ex­ists to sup­port writ­ers, from pub­lished au­thors to those who sim­ply en­joy writ­ing down their thoughts.
