Peer-to-Peer is a 10-week course for an adult with a mental illness and begins on Sept. 17. Both will be held from 2:00-4:30 on Sunday afternoons in Rome. Participants must register before attending. The Oostanaula School Reunion will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Old Oostanaula Schoolhouse, 1595 Oostanaula Bend Road SW, Calhoun. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with a covered dish lunch at 1 p.m. Drinks and paper goods will be furnished. Everyone is invited- all teachers, students, principals, family and friends. The Gordon County Singing Convention will hold the fall singing on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The church is located east of Calhoun just off Highway 156/Red Bud Rd on Pleasant Hill Rd. Singers, directors and specials are expected from the surrounding areas. All singers and listeners are invited to participate. There will be a covered dish meal at 5:30 p.m. followed by the singing at 6:30 p.m.

AARP Smart Driver - the new and enhanced driving refresher course from AARP Driver Safety will be offered at the Gordon County Senior Center, located at 150 Cambridge Court in Calhoun. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. The class will be taught by Certified Volunteer instructor Sheila Powell. Since 1979, AARP Driver Safety has helped over 15 million older drivers stay safe, educated and confident behind the wheel. AARP Smart Driver Course participants will learn: valuable defensive driving skills; proven safety strategies; how to stay current with the latest driving technologies; the current rules of the road, specific to your community, and how to manage and accommodate Common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Participants are encouraged to check with their insurance agent to see if they are eligible for an insurance discount. There are no tests required to pass the course. The course is open to drivers of all ages and costs $15 for AARP members and S20 for nonmembers. Please bring your membership card. Lunch will be on your own. Gordon County Senior Center - The Nutrition Site Council will be having a BBQ Plate sell on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw, cake. Price: $6 plate / $2.50 Sandwich. Come out and support us with this special fundraiser.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5376 in Calhoun would like to announce that there will be a Post Service Officer on site to assist any veterans with benefits on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Rome Chapter 525, meets the first Monday of the month except holidays at the Rome Nation Guard Armory located at 340 Wilshire Road at 6:00 P M. The Calhoun Housing Authority Board of Commissioners meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month for the regular called Board Meetings at 12:00 p.m. Special Board meetings will be advertised in advance. All meetings are held at 607 Oothcalooga St. Calhoun, Georgia. The public is invited to attend. Call to verify a meeting is schedule prior to attending.
The Calhoun Area Writers meet every third Friday of the month at The Harris Arts Center from 6-7:30 p.m. The club exists to support writers, from published authors to those who simply enjoy writing down their thoughts.
