Lady Phoenix show continued improvement in area victory
The Sonoraville Lady Phoenix avenged an earlier area loss this season and showed improvement on Tuesday with a split at a home tri-match at the Sonoraville Rec.
The Lady Phoenix (12-19, 3-3) opened the night with a victory in two sets (25-20, 25-18) over Bremen as they put together one of their more complete matches of the season and got even with the Lady Devils who defeated Sonoraville in three sets in late August.
Sonoraville then faced a talented Allatoona team in the final match of the night and dropped the non-area contest in two sets (25-9, 25-8).
“We are definitely moving in the right direction,” said Sonoraville head coach Trace Vaughn. “Hopefully, we are starting to peak at the right time. I tweaked the rotation until I found something that worked, but the girls are also playing much more relaxed and having fun.”
Statistically in the split, Bree Steely had five aces, four digs and two kills, Abby Chambers had four kills, two aces and one block, Skylar Huskins had four kills and seven digs, Alexis Lincoln had five kills, Alea Johnson had 16 assists and one dig, Kinsey Wilson had eight digs and one kill, Anissa Hales had three digs, Hannah Wehunt had one kill and one dig and Raleigh Hooper had one kill.
The Lady Phoenix will visit rival Calhoun for a tri-match on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m. against Ringgold and the Lady Jackets.
