Boy Scout Troop 22 holds Court of Honor

- Staff Reports

Boy Scout Troop 22 members, Adventurers, and their proud friends and families, gathered recently for their quarterly Court of Honor.

After a potluck dinner, the Scouts were awarded Merit Badges and Rank Advancements they have achieved since the last Court of Honor. Some Scouts completed multiple badges while others attained rank advancements such as Star and Life – both of which are preliminary to the Eagle rank. One Scout has achieved his Eagle rank and there will be a formal ceremony honoring his achievement in the near future.

This Court of Honor, two of the adult leaders, Tara Sewell and William Burnette, were awarded insignia, neckerchiefs, woggles ( neckerchief slides) and a symbolic bead for completing the Wood Badge Leadership Course. The Wood Badge Leadership Course was developed by Robert BadenPowell when he realized the need for trained adults to help the Boy Scouts. It combines a classroom and practical outdoors- based phase followed by a project phase known as the ticket which is designed to further their education and experience in Scout Leadership. Each participant completes a series of five tickets over a period of 18 months subsequent to the last day of their initial training phase.

Doug Hamil, Scoutmaster for this Wood Badge Training Course and Chris Pinnow, Fox Patrol Troop Guide were guests of honor and presented Sewell and Burnette with their achievement awards.

BSA Troop 22 is sponsored by Calhoun First United Methodist Church.
