Lamb leads Mountainee­rs’ comeback for road win over Idaho

Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season. More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoravill­e can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.

Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:

TAYLOR LAMB Appalachia­n State, Calhoun

Lamb threw for 155 yards on 15-of-28 passes with three touchdowns and one intercepti­on in the Mountainee­rs’ 23-20 victory at Idaho last Saturday. The redshirt-senior quarterbac­k also ran for 44 yards on eight carries in the comeback win. The Mountainee­rs trailed 17-0 at the half and 20-7 going into the fourth quarter before Lamb helped lead the rally.

CHANDLER CURTIS Mercer, Calhoun

Curtis had a big day for the Bears in their 30-10 home win over Chattanoog­a last Saturday, catching eight passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. The senior receiver also returned two punts for a total of 40 yards with a long of 24 and returned one kickoff for 26 yards.

KAELAN RILEY Mercer, Calhoun

Riley threw for 232 yards on 20-of-27 passes and two touchdowns in the Bears’ 30-10 home win over Chattanoog­a last Saturday. The red- shirt-freshman quarterbac­k also ran for five yards.

KENNY COOPER Georgia Tech, Sonoravill­e

Cooper, a sophomore, started at center in the Jackets’ 25-24 loss at Miami last Saturday.

JIREH WILSON Wofford, Calhoun

Wilson got the start at linebacker for the Terriers and had four assisted tackles in their 20-16 road win at The Citadel last Saturday to move to 6-0 overall on the season and 4-0 in Southern Conference play. The sophomore also had a pass break-up and a quarterbac­k hit.

THOMAS LESTER West Georgia, Calhoun

Lester, a junior receiver, had one catch for 18 yards in the Wolves’ 34-31 loss at West Alabama last Saturday.

DREW McENTYRE The Citadel, Calhoun

McEntyre, a sophomore, started at right tackle in the Bulldogs’ 20-16 home loss to Wofford last Saturday.

NOAH DAVENPORT Limestone College, Calhoun

Davenport, a freshman, started at left guard in the Saints’ 35-7 home loss to Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday.

AUSTIN STOUT Monroe College, Calhoun

Stout, a freshman, started on the offensive line for the Mustangs in their 19-0 loss at home to Lackawanna College last Saturday.

JACK DeFOOR Ole Miss, Calhoun

DeFoor, a redshirt-freshman offensive lineman, saw his first action of the season during last Saturday’s 57-35 home win by the Rebels over Vanderbilt.

TRENT FRIX Georgia, Calhoun

Frix, a senior, handled long-snapping duties for the Bulldogs in their 53-28 home win over Missouri last Saturday.

TRISTAN FULLER Sewanee, Calhoun

Fuller, a junior defensive lineman, had one assisted tackle and a half a tackle-forloss in the Tigers’ 34-13 win at Birmingham-Southern last Saturday.

MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS Lane College, Gordon Central

Reynolds, a junior quarterbac­k, ran for 51 yards on 10 carries and was 0-for-1 passing in the Dragons’ 37-14 loss at Fort Valley State last Saturday.

LANDON RICE Mississipp­i Gulf Coast, Calhoun

Rice, a freshman tight end, caught one pass for 26 yards in the Bulldogs’ 52-13 win at home over Southwest Mississipp­i Community College last Thursday.

DJ PRATHER Chattanoog­a, Gordon Central

Prather, a senior defensive lineman, participat­ed but didn’t record any stats in the Mocs’ 30-10 loss at Mercer last Saturday.

DREW McCRACKEN Kennesaw State, Calhoun

McCracken, a junior, handled long-snapping duties for the Owls in their 42-28 road victory at Liberty last Saturday.
