Manning Named Junior High Individual at State Wildlife Judging contest
Breana Manning, and Titus Smith. The team was coached by Jason Hooper. At the contest, competitors compete in a variety of wildlife management activities. The first activity is a group activity and is a written management plan, managing a given species for a given piece of land. Individually, youth must determine the appropriate wildlife management practices for up to four species of native animals; identify skulls, furs, tracks, and other materials of up to eight species; take a wildlife knowledge test; and rank habitats displayed in aerial photos from most appropriate to least appropriate for a given species. Breana Manning, an 8th grade student at Red Bud Middle, earned first place among all junior division competitors, placing first on the wildlife knowledge test and was named in the top ten of all other individual events. Titus Smith placed in the top ten for wildlife management practices and the wildlife knowledge test and Joshua Carr placed in the top ten for habitat ranking of aerial photos. The team placed fourth in the state.
