Gor­don County Hunger Walk will be held on Nov. 5, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Cal­houn Recre­ation De­part­ment. The reg­is­tra­tion for the com­mu­nity walk to­gether to raise aware­ness of hunger in our area will be at the Pav­il­ion near the Yel­low and Black Play­ground of the Cal­houn Rec. Reg­is­tra­tion be­gins at 2:30 p.m. En­ter from McDaniel Sta­tion Rd. Any sized do­na­tion is ac­cepted and ap­pre­ci­ated. To­gether we will as­sist these area food banks: VAC, Blewer Food Bank, God’s Pantry at the Sev­enth Day Ad­ven­tist Church, and St Vin­cent de Paul’s Food Pantry of St. Cle­ments Catholic Church. Gor­don Hos­pi­tal, Gor­don EMS, and Chick-fil-A of Cal­houn will honor the com­mu­nity’s vet­er­ans by host­ing a free Vet­er­ans Lunch. All vet­er­ans are in­vited to en­joy a free, dine-in only lunch at Chick-fil-A in Cal­houn, lo­cated at 495 High­way 53 East on Fri­day, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tim’s Toy Run 2017-A Christ­mas of Many Col­ors will be held on Satur­day, Nov. 11 in mem­ory of Tim “Goose” Ja­cob­sen to ben­e­fit chil­dren in need. Reg­is­tra­tion at 11 a.m. at Race Trac lo­cated at Hwy. 53 in Cal­houn. KSU at 12 p.m. Cost is $20 or toy of equal value (pas­sen­ger in­cluded in price). Ends at Duke’s of Cal­houn on Dews Pond Road, where a meal will be served to all rid­ers and those who do­nate. Cagers wel­come. There will be reg­u­lar door prizes and pas­sen­ger only door prize. The Mil­i­tary Or­der of the Pur­ple Heart Rome Chap­ter 525, meets the first Mon­day of the month ex­cept hol­i­days at the Rome Na­tion Guard Ar­mory lo­cated at 340 Wil­shire Road at 6:00 P M. The Cal­houn Hous­ing Author­ity Board of Com­mis­sion­ers meet on the fourth Wed­nes­day of each month for the reg­u­lar called Board Meet­ings at 12:00 p.m. Spe­cial Board meet­ings will be ad­ver­tised in ad­vance. All meet­ings are held at 607 Oothcalooga St. Cal­houn, Ge­or­gia. The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend. Call to ver­ify a meet­ing is sched­ule prior to at­tend­ing.

The Cal­houn Area Writ­ers meet ev­ery third Fri­day of the month at The Har­ris Arts Cen­ter from 6-7:30 p.m. The club ex­ists to sup­port writ­ers, from pub­lished au­thors to those who sim­ply en­joy writ­ing down their thoughts.
