Gordon County Hunger Walk will be held on Nov. 5, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Calhoun Recreation Department. The registrati­on for the community walk together to raise awareness of hunger in our area will be at the Pavilion near the Yellow and Black Playground of the Calhoun Rec. Registrati­on begins at 2:30 p.m. Enter from McDaniel Station Rd. Any sized donation is accepted and appreciate­d. Together we will assist these area food banks: VAC, Blewer Food Bank, God’s Pantry at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and St Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry of St. Clements Catholic Church. Money is to be turned in the day of the event. The Gordon County Hunger Walk will be held rain or shine. Join the Gordon County Ministeria­l Associatio­n is this walk through the park. Gordon Hospital, Gordon EMS, and Chick-fil-A of Calhoun will honor the community’s veterans by hosting a free Veterans Lunch. All veterans are invited to enjoy a free, dine-in only lunch at Chick-fil-A in Calhoun, located at 495 Highway 53 East on Friday, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tim’s Toy Run 2017-A Christmas of Many Colors will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 in memory of Tim “Goose” Jacobsen to benefit children in need. Registrati­on at 11 a.m. at Race Trac located at Hwy. 53 in Calhoun. KSU at 12 p.m. Cost is $20 or toy of equal value (passenger included in price). Ends at Duke’s of Calhoun on Dews Pond Road, where a meal will be served to all riders and those who donate. Cagers welcome. There will be regular door prizes and passenger only door prize. Hosted by the O.B.K, III% Brotherhoo­d, Twisted Iron Society, White Knights, SBC, Full Assault MC. Sponsored by Dukes and Ken’s Motorcycle Tire.

FIRST THURSDAY BOOK CLUB will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, at Shoney’s on Red Bud Road. The Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5376 in Calhoun would like to announce that there will be a Post Service Officer on site to assist any veterans with benefits on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Rome Chapter 525, meets the first Monday of the month except holidays at the Rome Nation Guard Armory located at 340 Wilshire Road at 6:00 P M. All veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart are eligible for membership and are invited to join. The Calhoun Housing Authority Board of Commission­ers meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month for the regular called Board Meetings at 12:00 p.m. Special Board meetings will be advertised in advance. All meetings are held at 607 Oothcaloog­a St. Calhoun, Georgia. The public is invited to attend. Call to verify a meeting is schedule prior to attending.

The Calhoun Area Writers meet every third Friday of the month at The Harris Arts Center from 6-7:30 p.m. The club exists to support writers, from published authors to those who simply enjoy writing down their thoughts.
