Frix plays big part on special teams in UGA win over rival Florida
Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season. More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoraville can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.
Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:
TRENT FRIX Georgia, Calhoun
Frix, a senior, handled long-snapping duties for the Bulldogs in their 42-7 victory over rival Florida in Jacksonville. Frix helped kicker Rodrigo Blankenship go 6-for6 on extra points and punter Cameron Nizialek average 46.5 yards on four punts.
KENNY COOPER Georgia Tech, Sonoraville
Cooper, a sophomore, got the start at center in the Jackets’ 24-10 loss at Clemson last Saturday.
DREW McENTYRE The Citadel, Calhoun
McEntyre, a sophomore, started at right tackle in The Citadel’s 21-3 home win over VMI last Saturday.
TAYLOR LAMB Appalachian State, Calhoun
Lamb threw for 133 yards on 14-of-28 passing with two touchdowns and one interception in the Mountaineers’ 30-27 loss at UMass in double overtime. The redshirt-senior starting quarterback also ran for 66 yards on seven carries with a touchdown.
JIREH WILSON Wofford, Calhoun
Wilson had one solo tackle and one assist for a total of two in the Terriers’ 31-24 win at East Tennessee State last Saturday. Among the sophomore linebacker’s stops was one tackle-for-loss.
TRISTAN FULLER Sewanee, Calhoun
Fuller had two solo tackles in the Tigers’ 28-10 loss at Rhodes last Saturday. The junior defensive lineman also contributed a pass breakup.
DJ PRATHER Chattanooga, Gordon Central
Prather, a senior defensive lineman, had one solo tackle in the Mocs’ 23-21 victory at Samford last Saturday.
MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS Lane College, Gordon Central
Reynolds, a junior quar- terback, threw for 23 yards on two completions and ran for 29 yards on 10 carries in the Dragons’ 32-5 loss at home to Kentucky State last Saturday.
NOAH DAVENPORT Limestone College, Calhoun
Davenport, a freshman, got the start at left guard for the Saints in their 45-28 home loss to Catawba last Saturday.
AUSTIN STOUT Monroe College, Calhoun
Stout, a freshman, got the start at right guard for the Mustangs in their 10-7 loss at home to Asa College last Saturday.
DREW McCRACKEN Kennesaw State, Calhoun
McCracken, a junior, handled long-snapping duties for the Owls in their 28-0 victory at Presbyterian last Saturday.
THOMAS LESTER West Georgia, Calhoun
Lester, a junior receiver, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Wolves’ 42-6 home win over Shorter last Saturday.
AUSTIN BYRD Kennesaw State, Calhoun
Byrd, a redshirt-junior tight end, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Owls’ 28-0 road win at Presbyterian last Saturday.
LANDON RICE Mississippi Gulf Coast, Calhoun
Rice, a freshman tight end, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Bulldogs’ 38-24 loss at home to Jones County Junior College last Saturday.
SEBASTIAN WILLER Georgia State, Calhoun
Willer, a redshirt- ju- nior offensive lineman, saw reserve action for the Panthers in their 21-13 win at home over South Alabama last Thursday.
