Week of Nov. 5

The Rome Chapter of NARFE (National Associatio­n of Active and Retired Federal Civil Service Employees) will have their monthly meeting at the Landmark Restaurant on Martha Berry Highway in Rome, GA on Thursday, November 9, from 11: 15 a. m. - 1 p. m. The local chapter is concentrat­ing on their member recruiting and retention efforts. The guest speaker at this month meeting will be Georgia State Senator Chuck Hufstetler. The monthly luncheon meeting are open to all current Federal civil service employees in the northwest Georgia region who want to learn what NARFE stands for and the organizati­on’s on- going fight for the right and benefits of current and retired federal civil service employees. All current and retired federal civil service employees have the right, and are encouraged to become members of NARFE., for through membership current and future members will be able to obtain many answers as they pertain to their earned rights and privileges. Meeting attendees will always receive the latest news regarding federal civil service matters and retirement data, as well as changes to Social Security. Those qualifying for membership are cordially invited to attend our meetings, and transporta­tion for prospectiv­e members ( living within the Rome area) to attend the meeting MAY BE made available, so please contact Duke Borchardt at 706- 2321986. All active and retired federal civil service employees living within Northwest Georgia are invited to attend our meeting, and to learn more about the organizati­ons goals.

Gordon Hospital, Gordon EMS, and Chickfil- A of Calhoun will honor the community’s veterans by hosting a free Veterans Lunch. All veterans are invited to enjoy a free, dine- in only lunch at Chick- fil- A in Calhoun, located at 495 Highway 53 East on Friday, Nov. 10 from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m.

Tim’s Toy Run 2017- A Christmas of Many Colors will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 in memory of Tim “Goose” Jacobsen to benefit children in need. Registrati­on at 11 a. m. at Race Trac located at Hwy. 53 in Calhoun. KSU at 12 p. m. Cost is $ 20 or toy of equal value ( passenger included in price). Ends at Duke’s of Calhoun on Dews Pond Road, where a meal will be served to all riders and those who donate. Cagers welcome. There will be regular door prizes and passenger only door prize. Gordon County Veterans to hold Veteran’s

$ 1 membership fee for the first year on Veterans Day only. Marine veteran Ben Harbor and his band will perform live at 1 p. m.; Cornhole Tournament at 1 p. m.; 3- ball Pool Tournament at 3 p.m. and Army veteran Jerry Gayton live acoustic performanc­e at 8 p. m.
