- By Brandi Owczarz

Two different fundraisers are being held to help with the funeral expenses of Gordon Central High School freshman Molly Jones, 16, of Resaca, who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017.

A group of student leaders at Gordon Central has organized a Spaghetti Dinner benefit in Jones’ name on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 3: 30 - 6: 30 p. m. in the Gordon Central High School cafeteria. The dinner consists of spaghetti, salad, bread and desserts. Plates are $ 7 each and those wishing to help out can get to- go orders or dine in the cafeteria. Donations are also being accepted at this fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses. Anyone interested in purchasing an advanced ticket for a plate can do so at Gordon Central High School, located at 335 Warrior Path NE in Calhoun.

A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up to help with final expenses, with a goal of raising $ 15,000. The fundraiser can be found at gofundme. com; search for “Molly Jones - Boone Ford Rd Tragedy.”

According to the Georgia State Patrol, around 8: 55 p. m. on Nov. 22, 2017, a 1987 Nissan pickup truck, that Jones was the passenger in, was traveling west on Boone Ford Road just west of Allen Loop and lost control, leaving the roadway on the south side and striking several trees on the passenger side. Even though she was wearing a seatbelt, Jones was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Gordon Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team ( SCRT) performed a follow- up investigation of the accident; those results are pending.
