Lady Phoenix varsity gets big win against Adairsvill­e

ty boys put forth a valiant effort, but fell to Adairsvill­e 42- 26. Christian Roberts set the tone for the Phoenix with seven points, while Zach Lyles netted six points. The defeat moves the team’s record to 2-4.

It was a different story for the Phoenix junior varsity squad, which snagged a 44-28 win over the Tigers. The offense was spearheade­d by Brant Bryant, who racked up 21 points, with Ridge Redd adding eight and Jaxon Pate contributi­ng six points. The junior varsity remain undefeated at 5-0 and remain at the top of the region standings.

-The Calhoun varsity boys flashed its ability to push the ball quickly and score at a rapid pace, but ultimately fell to the Cass Colonels 48-36 last Thursday afternoon.

-The Ashworth Lady Warriors varsity team earned a huge 49-17 victory over Coosa last Monday.

The team was boosted by an excellent scoring effort from Kim Passley, who compiled 18 points. Also enjoying successful nights were Rachel Raley, who tossed in 10 points, Brooke Wilson, who added seven points, Katelyn Mahan, who netted six points, Savannah Burnette, who chipped in four points and Amber Pickens and Lindsey Lowrance, who tacked on two points each.

The following night the Lady Warriors dominated Rockmart 47-5.

Passley led the way again, totaling 15 points. Also chipping in points was Wilson with 10, Raley and Pickens with five each, Cassie Chastain with four and Mahan, Lowrance and Savannah Clark with two each.

-The Warriors also collected a hard-earned win in the previous week, defeating Coosa on the road 46-38.

Ashworth grabbed the lead from the opening tip, and held onto it throughout the entire game. Brison McGinnis led all scorers with a gamehigh 13 points, followed by Armando Sanchez with 10, Scott James with nine, Blake Broome with four, Omar Byrd with three and two points from Walker Angland.

The Ashworth junior varsity boys submitted a complete team effort, but a fourth quarter rally from Coosa was proved too much to in a double overtime loss. Blake Broome tossed in nine points, with Caleb Houge scoring five and Seth Haygood scoring four.

Wrestling

-Ashworth’s varsity wrestling squad competed in the Junior Jacket Invitation­al in Rockmart on Saturday, placing fifth with 125 total points. The junior varsity ended up in fourth in its division with 51.50 total points.

Placing first for the Warriors was Kevin Payne. Also placing for Ashworth was Dakota Jones, who contribute­d a second-place finish, Claudio Roblero and Brock Shellhouse, who added thirdplace finishes and Issac Campanzano, Jeffery House and Addison Baker, who chipped in fourth-place finishes.

Anthony Temple, Saul Garcia, Jose Lara, Diego Gutierrez, Samar King and Jordan Smith were all one match away from placing. Justin Correll also picked up some match wins.

- The Red Bud Firebirds earned a dominating 75-24 road victory over the Adairsvill­e Tigers last Thursday to remain undefeated.

The Firebirds were back in action in the Hurricane Duals at Cartersvil­le over the weekend. The team kicked off the event with an impressive win over Cass before falling to Nashville Catholic and Woodland. However, the team bounced back with a huge victory over Calhoun.
