This year I did not write an “I am thankful” column with specifics named. That doesn’t mean I am not thankful for so many things. Each day someone or something reminds me of a specific for which I should be thankful to our God in Heaven. I tried to embrace my attitude of thankfulne­ss in a general statement wide in scope. A SEASON OF DOING GOOD: The statements in the above paragraph would certainly involve doing good for and doing good to others. Mentioned in an earlier column was the point I heard Jon Mitchell make in a sermon at the Calhoun Church of Christ based on the Apostle Paul’s statement in 2 Thessaloni­ans 3 when he said “But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing” (KJV). Some versions stress the constancy of doing well to others.

Paul emphasized greatly the responsibi­lity of doing good to others in his letter to the Galatians with the words “As we have therefore opportunit­y, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” (Gal. 6:10).

In addition to the above, there are so many admonition­s addressed to those who believe in the God of the Bible and in Jesus, his son, to practice “doing good,” and that on a consistent basis. Before leaving this point, I once again share with you the point made in a recent column about why people are condemned in the Bible.
