RLT Prime Timers classes to start in the new year

- Staff Reports

The new year will be here before we know it, and old man winter is settling in. Not looking forward to the gloom? Wishing your life away waiting for spring? Stop that! Make new friends and share laughter with Rome Little Theatre’s senior group, the RLT Prime Timers.

This group is so much more than just an acting class for mature and “wannabe actors.” Classes will work on everyday skills such as memory, movement and socialization through the acting process. You may discover a new talent or hobby along the way. Don’t let apprehensions keep you from trying something new.

Enrich your life and the lives of other by attending the 12-week session starting Thursday, Jan. 4 and running through Thursday, March 29, 2018. Each class will meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. RLT offers a morning class from 9:00-11:30 a.m. and an afternoon class from 4:006:30 p.m. Cost for the 12-week class is just $125; RLT strives to keep our tuitions affordable so everyone can participate.

After 10 weeks of classes, the Prime Timers will put together a show and take their talent on the road. The class will share their passion for the arts and perform at senior centers, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. They will close out this session with a performance at the Historic Desoto Theatre for friends and family to see the talent and growth achieved by our actors!

“For those of you who don’t know me,” explains Karen Bowling, current president of the Board of Directors at RLT, “I have been around our theatre for about twenty years now and yes, I’m a senior, too!” Bowling has recently directed musicals such as “9 to 5,” “The Adams Family,” “Legally Blonde,” “Hairspray” and “Annie.”

RLT would love to help you stretch your physical, emotional and mental limits through acting. Sign up today at romelittletheatre.com. Look for the senior program under the RLT Academy heading. Get your 2018 off to a fun and creative start.
