Calhoun College and Career Academy Recognized at Business and Education Summit

Calhoun’s College and Career Academy was nominated for the College and Career Academy of the Year Award at the Lt. Governor Casey Cagle’s 10th Annual Business and Education Leadership Summit held this year in Griffin, Georgia. Leaders from various industries in GA discussed the importance of leadership developmen­t, community partnershi­ps and involvemen­t, and adaptive classroom curriculum identifyin­g and describing how these key elements contribute to a successful 21st century economy. Education leaders shared how to best provide and develop the necessary skills students need to compete in Georgia’s growing workforce. Additional nominees included: Academy for Advanced Studies, Floyd County Schools’ College and Career Academy, Golden Isles College and Career Academy, Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy, Polk County College and Career Academy, and Putnam County College and Career Academy. We congratula­te Floyd County Schools’ College and Career Academy for being recognized as the 2017 College and Career Academy of the Year.

Madeline Bumgardner was also nominated for the Lt. Governor’s Student Leadership Award. Maddie is a senior at Calhoun High School and attends several classes through the College and Career Academy. Maddie was among 10 student leaders nominated from across the state. Calhoun City Schools is proud of the leadership Maddie demonstrat­es in and outside of the classroom. Maddie is the daughter of Dan and Kelly Bumgardner and has a brother Tate who attends the University of Georgia.
