Phoenix bounce back with convincing win over Ridgeland
A day after losing just their second game this year, the Sonoraville boys bounced back with a total performance and a solid victory on their home court on Friday.
The Phoenix jumped out to a quick lead and then put the final touches on with a dominant third quarter to defeat Ridgeland 76-54 on the final day of the Phoenix Holiday Classic. Sonoraville (11-2) led 18-9 after the first quarter and 38-27 at the half before putting the game completely out of reach by outscoring the Panthers 24-7 in the third to build a 62-34 lead going to the fourth quarter. The win came a day after Sonoraville lost a hardfought game by one point to Section (Ala.).
Leading the Phoenix on Friday was Wil Walraven, who had a huge came, compiling 31 points. Seth Harkins added added 15, including hitting four 3-pointers, and Lucas Brooks contributed eight points.
Sonoraville is back at home on Wednesday for a non-region makeup game against Armuchee at 7:30 p.m. They open Region 6-AAA South subregion play on Friday at home against Haralson County at 8:30 p.m.

The Lady Phoenix got off to a very slow start on Friday but picked up the pace late for a huge fourth quarter to run away for a non-region victory in their last game of the Phoenix Holiday Classic.
Sonoraville (8-3) scored just 12 points in the first half and then trailed 22-21 going to the fourth quarter but completely controlled the final period, outscoring the Lady Panthers 23-8 to earn the win.
Alexa Geary scored a game-high 18 points to lead Sonoraville. Maliyah Parks was also in double figures with 13, and Grace Darnell scored seven.
The Lady Phoenix are back at home on Wednesday to host Armuchee at 6 p.m. They open subregion play on Friday at home against Haralson County at 7 p.m.

Calhoun (1-6) led 41-21 at the half, but Darlington fought back hard to even things up at the end of regulation. The Tigers then outscored the Jackets 10-4 in the extra session.
Porter Law had a big night for the Jackets with 17 points to lead the way. Chase Goble and Gage Maffetone each added 14.

Calhoun (1-7) rallied from a 48-40 halftime deficit to take a 64-62 lead after three quarters, but Central-Carroll outpaced the Jackets 25-16 in the fourth to pull ahead for the victory.
