children, her husband and then herself. Destructiv­e and deadly attacks of terrorism have become common in our mad world. The remedy of these great evils is not more laws, more prisons or more wars. It gets down to the often suggestion made in this column that what is needed is the education (change, if you please) of the heart.

Georgia vs. Alabama: A game I could not win and a game I could not lose.

The National Football Championsh­ip game has been played and a champion declared. The column today will not be concerned with the winner or loser. The heading above indicates a paradox of the greatest proportion. That in itself deserves an explanatio­n.

I like telling Alabama fans an evolving of my attitude toward Alabama. If it did not have a good ending it would not be told. Bear Bryant came back to Alabama in 1958 and for several years he was my most disliked coach in college football. Time passed and Super Station WTBS in Atlanta aired three coaches’ shows on Sunday night. Shug Jordon of Auburn, Bill Battle of Tennessee and Bear Bryant of Alabama were star attraction­s after coming home from church. I watched Bear’s show and it did not take long for me to fall in love with the gentleman. From those days in the 1960’s he became a most admired man.

My daughter Summer married Frank Mills in 1979. Frank’s family was a devoted Alabama fan group. The devotion of children and grandchild­ren allowed Alabama to become a favorite of mine. I hated for them to lose.

But, someone asks what about Georgia? Well, Georgia has also evolved in my positive thinking. Most of that change has to do with our Calhoun boys heading to Bulldog country and
