‘College Day Information Session’ event to be held at Faith Moves
Faith Moves Maranatha Church, located at 161 Riverview Drive in Calhoun, welcomes the public to a special event, College Day Information Session, on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p. m. Representatives from the following colleges will be on hand at the church to discuss their schools, what they offer and how to apply: Dalton State College, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Georgia Highlands.
The church’s senior pastor, Leyner Argueta, said the focus for his church is on community.
“Our church has decided to take on a monthly communityfocused project for each month this year,” said Argueta. “In the month of February, we have decided to team up with colleges to promote higher education to our community.”
Anyone in the community is invited to attend, especially students in high school interested in furthering their education. “The event is open to anyone and everyone who is interested in going to college,” said Argueta. “We will offer translation to Spanishspeaking parents who do not speak English.”
Faith Moves Maranatha is truly one of a kind in the community. “Faith Moves was established as a multi- cultural, fully bilingual church,” said Argueta. “It’s the only one that I know of in Gordon County.
“We consider ourselves as a support team for a believer and not a religious practice just as some does on Sundays,” said Argueta. “Faith Moves started with one clear vision- don’t talk about being part of a church; we would rather have you ‘ Be the Church.’ The name ‘Faith Moves’ comes from the concept that if you believe what you preach, you would do something about it. Your faith should move you!”
The church actively ministers in the community and does various local mission projects, including organizing a law enforcement prayer event last year at BB&T park in downtown Calhoun.
