Ike “Pete” Ray

Ike William “Pete” Ray, 86, of Calhoun, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 at Gordon Health Care, following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on May 18, 1931, son of the late Charlie and Octavia Hall Ray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Black Ray on March 10, 2008.

Pete was a Minister, a used car salesman, and textile worker. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Mildred Ballew of Calhoun; a brotherin-law and sister-in-law, Grady and Barbara Reagan of McDonough; and special friends, Junior Redwine, and Vernon and Martha Talley. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Services to honor the life of Ike William “Pete” Ray will be held Friday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Marvin Carr and Rev. Donny Matilla will officiate. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 4 until 9 p.m.

Jackie Parker

Jackie Gene Parker, 61, of Calhoun, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on April 28, 1956, son of the late Claude and Avenell Buff Parker, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Parker and Jerry Parker; and sisters, Mammie Joe Pack and Ruth Ann Logan.

He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Young Parker; his sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Natalie Parker, and Brent and B.J. Parker, all of Calhoun; his brothers and sister-in-law, Claude Junior Parker, and Danny and Rebecca Parker, all of Calhoun; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and David Clayton of Cohutta; grandchild­ren, Aundrea Leigh Dutton and her husband Ty of Fairmount, Celeste Parker, Chandra Parker, and Chelsey Parker, all of Calhoun; step-grandchild­ren, Cheyanne Childers and Kameron Childers and her husband Bo of Calhoun; a great-grandchild, Paris Dutton of Fairmount; and a step great-grandchild, Mattie Grace Childers of Calhoun. Brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to honor the life of Jackie Gene Parker will be held Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. from Canaanland Christian Center, 430 Tow Chapel Road, Adairsvill­e, GA 30103, with Bro. Lamar Long officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearer­s serving will include Mitchell Shephard, Billy Redd, Bo Hightower, Richie Seckinger, Von Johnson, and Bryan Bradshaw. Honorary pallbearer­s are Greg Jacobs, Darell Bradshaw, DOT Staff, Brian Parker, and Keith Parker.

The Parker family will receive friends at Canaanland Christian Center on Friday, Jan. 26 after 12 noon.

John Nance

John Robert Nance, age 80 of Dalton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at his residence.

John was born on July 19, 1937 in Whitfield County to the late Jefferson Davis Nance, Sr. and Floy Elizabeth Dooley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Virginia Sloan, JoAnn Patterson, and Anthony Stroud Nance. He was a member of Resaca Baptist Church. John loved Calhoun High School football, and watching his nephews Zeke and Isaac.

John is survived by two brothers, Bud Nance and Dennis Nance; three sisters, Darlene Longley, Pat Nance Franklin, and Martha Lynn Edwards all of Dalton; several nieces and nephews also survive. Paul Pedraza

Paul Raymond Pedraza, 50, of Resaca, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on Oct. 1, 1967, son of Peter R. Pedraza and Phylis W. Manley. He was preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Peter and Fannie Pedraza.

Paul was owner/ operator of Circle P Trucking.

He leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Rita Phillips Pedraza; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rev. Kenneth and Lila Phillips of Resaca; his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Leta Gwin, and Justin and Malary Gwin; his daughters, Sharrona Slaton, Louisa Pedraza, and Brittanie Bailey; grandchild­ren, Darrien and Gracie Bailey, Gabriel and Porter Gwin, and Armonie Shephard; his father and step-mother, Peter and Norma Pedraza; and his sisters, Pilar Pedraza Burns and Cathy Metschulat, and their families. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchild­ren, and friends, who will forever keep him in their hearts.

Memorial services for Paul Raymond Pedraza will be held Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. from First Apostolic Ministries of Calhoun, 712 New Town Road, Calhoun, GA 30701. Pastor Ricky Silvers will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributi­ons are made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
