Gordon Central’s Volzer selected to All-State Band for 5th consecutiv­e year

but Volzer has been selected as a member of the Georgia All-State Band for five consecutiv­e years, 8th - 12th grade. She began playing clarinet in 2012 when she was a student at Christian Heritage, and continued playing at Gordon Central since her 9th grade school year. Volzer has been blessed to have good teachers over her years of musical growth; David Pasqua, Janna Pye, Wanda Dugger and Neal Crawford have been her band directors and private instructor­s. Volzer has performed for many guest conductors and clinicians over her experience­s in District Honor Bands, All-State Bands, University Honor Bands, Music Camps and Community Bands/ Orchestras.

This year, Volzer will perform with the University of Tennessee Tri-State Honor Band Jan. 25-27 on the University of Tennessee Chattanoog­a campus; GMEA District 7 Honor Band Feb. 15-17 at Ringgold High School; and GMEA All-State Band March 1-3 at the University of Georgia Classic Center.

“April has been a pleasure to teach,” said Neal Crawford, Gordon Central’s Band Director. “April has an inner drive and passion for music that is exceptiona­l. Her ability to devote hours upon hours developing her skill set that is on a state champion level is to be honored and recognized. As her high school band director, I want to not only recognize April for her accomplish­ments, but to also recognize all of the educators and musicians that helped April along the way. I also thank her parents, Jarret and Dianne, for their sacrifices and encouragem­ent of April. I know that great things are on the horizon for April as she moves forward in life.”

What is next for Volzer? She plans to study Linguistic­s or Literature on the collegiate level and minor in music.
