Red Bud teams earn dominant wins over Woodland

-In postseason play, the Lady Phoenix continued playing at a high level on Thursday, as it advanced to the next round of the Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Associatio­n (BGMSAA) Region Tournament after taking out Woodland 43-15. Abernathy led all scor- ers again with 16 points, with Crocker notching 13.

Red Bud will be back in tournament action on Saturday at 3:15 pm against Cartersvil­le.

- The junior varsity Lady Phoenix finished the regular season strong with a 44-8 win over Woodland’s JV unit.

Taylin Walker led the effort with nine points, with Emma Hamilton tacking on seven.

-Red Bud’s varsity boys squad also ended the regular season on a high note with a 39-21 victory over the Wildcats at home. Dustin Fortenberr­y contribute­d 13 points for the Phoenix, with Christian Roberts tossing in seven.

-The junior varsity Phoenix similarly coasted past Woodland 54-16. Brant Bryant exploded for 26 points, with Zevyn Ferguson pitching in 10.

- Calhoun’s varsity girls snatched the No.1 seed and a first-round bye in the BGMSAA Region Tournament. The team closed out its regular season with a 56-9 win over Woodland and a 47-44 victory over the No. 2- seeded Cartersvil­le Lady Hurricanes.

- Calhoun’s varsity boys team suffered a 42-36 loss to Cass in its regular season finale. However, the squad is positioned well in the Region Tournament on Saturday as the No. 2 seed.

Swimming

-The Calhoun Middle School boys and girls teams each snagged a second-place finish at the Northwest Georgia Regional Championsh­ip recently.
