Lady Phoenix defeat Dalton on late goal

The Sonoravill­e Lady Phoenix got a dramatic late goal to earn a hardfought non-region road win on Tuesday at Dalton.

The Lady Phoenix were all tied at 1-1 late in the game when Prissilla Arambul put one in the back of the net in the final minute to give her team a 2-1 victory. Sonoravill­e (4-1-1) started the game with momentum as Avery Hamilton scored a goal in the ninth minute to give them the lead. Dalton scored to tie it up in the 67th minute before Arambul’s late heroics.

The game was originally scheduled to be held at Sonoravill­e but was moved to Dalton due to wet field conditions.

Sonoravill­e is back home on Friday to host Northwest Whitfield, weather pending, at 5:30 p.m. in another non-region contest. They are back in Region 6-AAA action on Tuesday when they host North Murray at 5:30 p.m.

SOCCER Calhoun boys 3, Heritage 0

The Jackets went on the road on Tuesday and got a shutout victory in a non-region contest.

Oscar Huerta led the offensive attack with two goals, and Daniel Isep had a goal and two assists for Calhoun (3-2). Goalkeeper­s Eduardo Fajardo and Alonzo Purvis combined for the shutout.

Calhoun is back on the road for another tough non-region test at Coosa on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Heritage girls 3, Calhoun 1

The Lady Jackets rallied from an early defi- cit to tie things up but couldn’t add another goal in the second half in a non-region road loss on Tuesday.

Calhoun (2-3-2) got a goal midway through the first half from Hannah Dimeler to knot things up at 1-1, but Heritage added two goals shortly after to take a 3-1 halftime lead. The Lady Jackets had multiple chances in the second half but weren’t able to find the back of the net.

Calhoun will open Region 6-AAA play on Tuesday when they host Coahulla Creek at 5 p.m.

TENNIS Calhoun girls, boys sweep Adairsvill­e

Both Calhoun tennis teams were solid as they defended home court with a region sweep of Adairsvill­e on Tuesday.

The Lady Jackets (2-1, 2-0) defeated Adairsvill­e 5-0 with singles wins from Carly Briggs (No. 1), Emma King (No. 2) and Jalen Holland (No. 3) and doubles wins from the team of Molly Mashburn and Emma Blackstock (No. 1) and the team of Neeley Abernathy and Ruby Christian (No. 2).

The Calhoun boys (3-1, 2-0) defeated the Tigers by a 4-1 score. Singles wins came from Luke McKenzie ( No. 2) and Matthew McCanless (No. 3). They also swept doubles action, earning wins from the No. 1 team of Matthew Turner and Hunter Hartsfield and the No. 2 team of Dawson Williams and Rucker Reeves.

Calhoun was scheduled to visit North Murray on Thursday, depending on the weath- er. (For details on that match, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They are on the road again on Monday, traveling to LFO at 5 p.m.

Sonoravill­e earns sweep of LFO

Sonoravill­e hosted LFO on Tuesday for a region match and came away with two dominant 5-0 wins.

The Lady Phoenix (2-1) got singles wins from Joanna Gallman, Anna Trantham and Ashton Woodring and doubles wins from the team of Brooke Childs and Esther Hayes and the team of Kerrie Bailey and Jacy Rae Cagle.

The Sonoravill­e boys (3-0) also won at all five lines, sweeping singles matches thanks to Jacob Rickett, John Lister and Tripp Morrison and getting doubles wins from the team of Brandon Busby and Jonathan Rickett and the team of Spencer Ford and Grayson Boley.

Both teams were scheduled to play at Ringgold on Thursday, weather pending. ( For details on that match, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They will visit Coahulla Creek on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Sonoravill­e splits with Christian Heritage

Sonoravill­e’s boys earned a 4-1 win, but the Lady Phoenix dropped a tough 3-2 decision on Monday in non-region road action.

The Phoenix (2-0) got victories in singles from Jacob Rickett, John Lister and Trip Morrison. The team of Spencer Ford and Grayson Boley added another point with a win in doubles.

The Sonoravill­e girls (1-1) got wins in singles from Joanna Gallman and Ashton Woodring for their two points.
