TOBI Says, Tell me the story

-

a testimony about the journey, along with some highlights or adventures along the way. Each enjoyed the challenges, obstacles and events that they encountered. The stories are filled with people that they have met, encouragement they have received and friendships that have formed since they have joined the family of 50 staters.

The rest of the attendees are then asked to speak. They are asked to tell their name and the number of marathons that they have done. They also tell of some of the unique things that they have seen along the way. An example is the marathon for the hospital, with each department taking an aid station on the course. At mile 20 the hospice had the aid station! The race director sure heard about that. The subject of death and mile 20 (also known as the WALL) was the marathoner’s biggest fear.

There is always the story of a 50 stater slowing down and encouraging the newbie (first time marathoner) to battle through the physical or mental challenge to get to the finish. That is why they are, and want to be called, a family. They are a support group to be there and to share the journey, and the victory.

This week was the Discipleship Now event for teens. Sunday evening was a time of sharing testimonies about the weekend. Many shared the joys and learning during the small group times, as well as the large meetings. Some shared about the visitation in the community on Saturday afternoon. The teens went door to door to speak to their neighbors. They explained that they were there to greet neighbors, and asked if there were needs.

Some families were new to the community, and they were invited to visit the church. Others were facing challenges with changes in their lives, and they gladly accepted the prayers of the young people. Others were just glad to see the teens reaching out to their community.

The teens learned that the church and the church family are important to the individual, the family and the community.

Christians are a family. And they can make a difference whether they are a child, a teen, or an adult as they show God’s love to the world around them. Now you are challenged to tell your story.
