Red Bud, Ashworth square off in girls, boys tennis

a win at No.1 doubles and the combinatio­n of Cole Cavin and Ian Martin emerged victorious at No. 2 doubles. Walker Angland captured a singles win for the Warriors.

-The Red Bud and Ashworth girls also squared off on Monday, but the matches were shortened due to the rain. Before the inclement weather, Ashworth’s Alli Cox picked up a No. 1 singles win, and Katie Kirby and Cheyenne Eubanks claimed victory in No. 1 doubles. Additional­ly for the Lady Warriors, Thea Holden and Keean Sexton were leading before the rain.

For Red Bud, Reese Davis and Taylor West earned a win.

-The Phoenix were able to carry that momentum over to its match with Adairsvill­e on Tuesday, topping the Tigers 4-1. Seth Hare and Vincent contribute­d singles wins for the Phoenix, with the pairs of Cavin and Martin and Stewart and Brooks chipping doubles wins.

Baseball

-Both Calhoun and Red Bud continued their respective scorching starts to the season over the past week. Red Bud cruised past South Central 16-1 last Friday and tacked on a 3-2 win over Cass on Mon- day. The Phoenix did drop a close game to Adairsvill­e on Wednesday 5-4, but the team’s record still stands at a sturdy 4-1.

-The Jackets started the week off by edging Adairsvill­e 5-4 and capped it off with a 12-0 win over South Central. Calhoun’s sits atop the standings with a 4-0 record.

Soccer

-The Ashworth Lady Warriors snatched two wins this week. On Monday, the team picked up a 2-0 victory against Cedartown, and followed that up with a 7-0 win over Pepperell on Wednesday.

-The Red Bud Lady Phoenix grabbed a 6-0 victory over South Central on Wednesday to move to 2-1 on the season.
