Bad dads of the Bible

-

about students that we had worked with over the years, and he spoke some truth that I had to agree with. One of the greatest failures in the United States and globally, was the failure of fathers to be dads.

Some dads go MIA ( missing in action), and then there’s times that at least seem like their sons and daughters would be even better off if their fathers would have checked out early. I doubt that any of these men ever planned to be a “bad dad,” but along the way, one failure seemed to lead to another. Before you know it, they would almost feel like they couldn’t avoid it; like maybe there was no hope for them as committed fathers. There’s some that fall into generational curses. Of course there’s so much truth to the statement that “Hurt people, hurt people.” Then there are homes where fathers are influenced by other things that carry them away from one of their surest and greatest callings, to be a Godly dad.

There are so many things that can factor into these relational failures. But where, and when, did epidemic began?

Throughout history, the fingers of “dads gone bad” have been pointed to the generations preceding them, and there’s much proof to their reasoning. Question is, how many generations back would we have to go to find the root of the sins of fathers?

A little while after the coach and I had our talk I came across a book at my favorite place, the clearance rack! I bought it, and just lately read into it. It is titled “Bad Dads of the Bible,” by Roland C. Warren. As Roland this points out, men who seem to be some of the mostly godly men in the scriptures really blew it when it came to making mistakes in raising their children. In his book, Roland examines some of the failures of these Godloving men. He also offers advice on how we, as dads with God’s help, can rise above our own shortcomings.

While I cannot quote the book, and hope not to infringe on any copyright laws, I do want to share some of these with you over the weeks to come. Pray that the Holy Spirit will teach us through the scriptures, as we comb through a few of these together.

I believe that there’s much to be learned here. There’s power in the scriptures to heal lives and relationships. My prayer is that we all can take something away from these articles that we can use or share, and trust God to bring about healing. Lord willing, we’ll cover the first one next week. Just be patient with me, and Be Blessed.
