Calhoun tennis stays unbeaten in 6-AAA

- From staff reports

The Calhoun girls and boys tennis teams have been the top dogs in their region for several consecutive years, coming through in the clutch in the region tournament on a routine basis. They are setting themselves up for a chance to do that again this year based on their play so far in the region schedule.

The Lady Jackets and Jackets continued their unbeaten run through the 6-AAA schedule on Thursday afternoon when they welcomed Haralson County and Bremen to the Calhoun Tennis Center and came away with a sweep of the competition.

The Calhoun girls (6-1, 5-0) won both of their matches on Thursday 4-1. In their first match of the day, they defeated Bremen thanks to singles wins from Carly Briggs (No. 1), Emma King (No. 2) and Jalen Holland (No. 3) and a doubles win from the team of Molly Mashburn and Emma Blackstock (No. 2). They followed that up with a victory over Haralson County, once again sweeping singles matches thanks to Briggs, King and Holland and earning a doubles win from the No. 2 team of Ruby Christian and Emma Gallman.

The Calhoun boys (7-1, 5-0) also swept their matches, winning them both by a 4-1 score. First against Bremen, the Jackets got singles wins from Luke McKenzie (No. 2) and Matthew McCanless (No. 3) and doubles wins from the team of Matthew Turner and Hunter Hartsfield (No. 1) and the team of Rucker Reeves and Dawson Williams (No. 2). They followed that up with a win over Haralson County thanks to points from Coen Marcus (No. 1) and McCanless (No. 3) in singles action and sweeping both doubles matches thanks to the team of Turner and Hartsfield (No. 1) and the team of Reeves and Williams (No. 2).
