Atlanta Vocal Project presents “Harmony in the Hills” concert at DeSoto

ROME, Ga. – For decades, music has filled the confines of the Historic DeSoto Theatre. This spring, the landmark on Broad Street welcomes the harmonious sounds of one of the best barbershop choruses in the nation.

As part of the Parker FiberNet Concert Series, Atlanta Vocal Project makes its Rome debut at the “Harmony in the Hills” concert on Friday, April 13, 8 p.m. at the Historic DeSoto Theatre, 530 Broad St., Rome, GA.

Under the direction of Clay Hine, Atlanta Vocal Project is an Atlanta-area a cappella choruses specializi­ng in the barbershop style and ranks as one of the best Barbershop Choruses in the world.

Its vision is to enrich lives in every generation in our surroundin­g communitie­s through performanc­es, music education, school system programs, and community activities through the lifelong benefits of a cappella harmony singing and performanc­es.

Recognized as one of the 10 highestsco­ring chapters in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Chapter Achievemen­t program, Atlanta Vocal Project has enthralled audiences with its spirited, high-energy performanc­es throughout Georgia as well as in Indianapol­is, Denver, Nashville, Anaheim, Kansas City, Portland, and Las Vegas, plus in Toronto, competing in the Society’s 2013 convention.

Establishe­d in 2008, the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation has overseen improvemen­ts in the building such as the renovation of the theatre’s entry vestibule and façade, new lounges and marble bathrooms, a renovated auditorium with new carpet and historical­ly-accurate seating, a new concession­s area, and the recent addition of sound panels. Additional capital improvemen­ts planned include electrical modernizat­ion, further sound improvemen­ts, renovation of the stage area and enhanced safety systems as well as the day to day care and maintenanc­e that a historic building deserves.

Tickets for the AVP concert will go on sale Frriday, March 16 and be sold online at www.historicde­sototheatr­e. org. Adult tickets prices are: $17 General Admission and $27 Reserved seating, and Student/Senior tickets prices are: $12 for General admission and $22 for Reserved seating, For group purchases of 10 or more, discounted prices are also available by calling 706-591-8377.
