Ashworth girls, boys soccer get wins over Armuchee
its contest against Armuchee, dominating the Indians 10-0. Brayan Rico racked up three goals, while Richard Barrios knocked in a pair of scores. Nehemias Morales, Charlie Garcie, Jose Laura and Adres Romero all contributed a goal each.
-The Calhoun girls soccer team defeated Red Bud 3-1 last Friday. Red Bud’s Olivia Beach was able to net a goal off of a corner kick, but the Lady Jacket defense prevented the Lady Phoenix from capitalizing on a few late scoring opportunities.
-The Lady Jackets fol- lowed that performance up with a 5-0 victory on Tuesday. Sofia Campa, Ace Pritchett and Aaliya Rivera chipped in standout defensive performances, while Kiara Fernandez pitched in four shots on goal and three takeaways. Jasmine Rodriguez and Mattie Gunter earned a place in the scoring column for Calhoun, with Melany Sanchez also striking a shot on goal. Kierston Worley had two breakaways and an assist in her season debut as a sixth-grader.
The two wins elevate the Lady Jackets to 4-0-1 on the season, which is good for the No. 1 spot in the BGMSAA rankings.
-The Red Bud Lady Phoenix bounced back on Tuesday, topping the Adairsville Lady Tigers 2-1. Beach contributed another impact performance, scoring both goals. Madison Abernathy also had a notable game in-goal for Red Bud. The win pushes the team’s record to 3-2 on the season.
Tennis
-Both the Ashworth girls and boys tennis squads traveled to Coosa last Thursday, with each snagging 4-1 victories.
-The Red Bud boys tennis team cruised past Cass 4-1 on Tuesday. Brant Bryant picked up a win at singles, while Cass was shorthanded with only two players to play. The Red Bud girls tennis team were edged out 4-1 by Cass, with Hadley Harper collecting a singles win.
Baseball
-Calhoun remained undefeated and in first place in the BGMSAA baseball standings by snatching a 7-2 win over Red Bud last Friday and a 13-0 victory over Woodland this past Tuesday.
