Calhoun rolls past Colts for 6-AAA win

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets took another step toward securing a playoff spot and helped their chances of earning the No. 2 seed with a dominant road region victory on Tuesday.

The Jackets took an early lead with a couple runs in the first inning and broke things open with nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to earn an 11-0 victory in five at Coahulla Creek.

Calhoun (18-8, 11-5 in 6-AAA) had contributi­ons from up and down the lineup, including a 2-for-3 day from Payton Morrow with two RBIs and one run scored. Parker Lester had two hits, an RBI and a run scored as well, and Brett Potts added a hit and two RBIs. Davis Allen contribute­d a hit, an RBI and two runs scored, and Mathew Williams had a hit and a run scored. Also scoring runs were Aaron Hayes, Carson Kemp (2), Parker McPherson and Jeremy Register.

Ben King earned the win on the mound for Calhoun with a shortened complete-game shutout. The junior went five innings and gave up just two hits while striking out six.

Calhoun was back at home on Thursday to host Adairsvill­e in another crucial 6-AAA showdown. (For details on that game, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They will be on the road to close out the regular season on Friday at Haralson County at 5:55 p.m.

Calhoun earned a non-region road victory on Tuesday thanks to a huge game from one of their seniors.

Daniel Isep scored all four goals for the Jackets (9-5-1) as he put together an impressive night. Cristian Vasquez contribute­d two assists, and Jame Vo got the win in goal with multiple saves.

Calhoun was on the road at Adairsvill­e on Thursday. (For details on that game, see Wednesday’s Calhoun Times.) They will wrap up the region schedule and regular season when they host North Murray in a big 6-AAA contest at 6 p.m.

The Jackets visited Dalton Country Club to play in the Christian Heritage Invitation­al on Monday and produced some strong individual rounds.

Calhoun was led by Hayden Hayes who shot an 81. Taylor Gresham, Drew Eickman and Andrew Barber all carded an 89 for the day. Also completing rounds were Avery Dodd (90) and Alex Repp (96).

The Jackets were at Fields Ferry on Thursday to take on Sonoravill­e and North Murray in a tri-match. They will host North Murray at Fields Ferry on Monday.
