Louis Dean

Louis Karl Dean, age 47, of Gordon County, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 at Gordon Hospital.

Louis was born in Thomasvill­e on April 24, 1971 to the late Claude Ferrel Dean and Ursula Dean. He was the Police Captain and Assistant Chief of Police in the City of Adairsvill­e. Louis loved his wife and daughter; he was also an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, and Georgia Bulldog Fan.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Dodie Dean of Calhoun; daughter, Bailey Caroline Dean of Cartersvil­le; brother, Mario Girard of Brunswick; sister, Cassie Hembree of Canton; nephews, Hudson Hembree and Heath Hembree, both of Canton.

Funeral Services were conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at Trinity Baptist Church at 4 p.m. with Reverend Jim Pinkard officiatin­g. Burial followed in Fain Cemetery. Gordon County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard had Graveside Rites. Pallbearer­s serving were Brian Holloman, Mark Waycaster, Chad Phillips, Anthony King, Mike Nance, Mike Jones, and Therrell Goswick. Honorary pallbearer­s were the City of Adairsvill­e Police Department and local law enforcemen­t agencies.

The family received friends on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 at Trinity Baptist Church from 5 until 8 p.m.

Jimmy Donald Colston, 76, died on Aug. 6 2018 at Gordon Hospital after surgery complicati­ons. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 at Max Brannon Funeral Home, located at 705 Old Red Bud Road in Calhoun GA at 11:30 AM

Jimmy was born on Dec. 13, 1941 in Shannon, Ga. to James and Thelma Colston. He earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Alabama Christian College in 1963 and had a successful career as a drafting engineer in the field of Fire Protection from 1969 until his retirement in 2012. One of his proudest career milestones was designing the fire protection framework for the Braves Stadium in Rome, Georgia.

He married Katherina Chrystosto­mou on Oct. 29, 1967 in Athens, Greece and had one daughter Chrisie Marie, in 1969 born in Atlanta.

Jimmy honored his country by serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War in 1963 as a communicat­ions officer and was honorably discharged in November 1967.

He was the oldest of 10 brothers and sisters who were very loving and close growing up. After his father passed, Jimmy took on the role of patriarch in the family and always led the family prayer at gatherings and holidays with pride. He was a very sweet and loving man that will always be remembered by his family and the community.

His wife Katherina, his daughter Chrisie, his brothers King, Rodney, Ricky and sisters Faye, Sheila and Jeanette survive him.

Mrs. Joyce Anne Overby Talley, age 74, of Adairsvill­e, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Talley was born in Rome on Sept. 26, 1943, daughter of the late Martin Overby and the late Eva Mae Fortune Overby. She was also preceded in death by three grandchild­ren, Christophe­r Shaun Carroll, Paisley Shaun Carroll and Emily Grace Carroll, and by seven siblings. Mrs. Talley was a homemaker and was a member of the McFall Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James “Jimmy” Talley; six children, Danny Carroll (Brandie), Calhoun, Robin Tucker (Bobby), Calhoun, Scott Carroll ( Gail), Summervill­e, Amy Ash, Rome, Donna Martin, Indiana, and Phillip Carroll (Gloria), Sugar Valley; a brother, Billy Overby (Sheila), Rome; 17 grandchild­ren; several great grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Bert Brooks officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

John Robert Stephens, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at Gordon Health and Rehab from an extended illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1933 in Lumberton, N.C., to the late Ella Rose Stephens and Odell Owens.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eva Grace Britt Stephens; his daughter Brenda Stephens Dickinson and her husband George Dickinson; his grandchild­ren Melissa Dickinson and her husband Tom Query, Laura Dickinson Brown and her husband Joseph Brown; his great grandchild­ren Gage and Aerie Brown; his cousins Betty Britt, Frances Richardson, Marcella Taylor, Frankie Bolton, Michael Bolton, and Gilbert Boothe.

Mr. Stephens was a loving father, devoted husband, and a mischievou­s, fun loving grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r.

He proudly served his country and fellow Naval comrades during the Korean War on the USS Sandoval.

He retired from Moss Trucking Company in the early 1990’s, but continued his joy of long distance travel by driving tour buses accompanie­d by his wife, his childhood sweetheart.

Mr. John thoroughly enjoyed many outdoor activities; working in the garden and his beautiful landscaped yard, playing with the dogs, and has even been known for enjoying goats, horses, and occasional ducks.

He and his wife are members of First Baptist Church of Lumberton, N.C.

He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Georgia National Cemetery with Military honors.

Ms. Martha Lynn Williams Bramblett, age 64, of Dalton, departed this life Friday evening, Aug. 10, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Martha was born April 26, 1954 in Dalton, a daughter of the late Wesley and Annie May Allen Williams, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Wesley Williams; brothers, Donnie Williams and Wesley Williams and nephews, Brian Williams and Wesley Clayton Williams.

She is survived by her daughters and son-inlaw, Sebrina and Rigo Rodriguez of Calhoun, and Judy Darnell of Copperhill, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Randall and Tuesday Green, Bryant and Katelyn Greene, Noah Rodriguez, Ana Rodriguez, Hannah Holmes and Zachary Bramblett; greatgrand­children, Billy Green and Aleo Green; sister, Mary Marler Crider; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Patricia Williams, David and Lissa Williams, Paul Williams all of Dalton; nieces and nephews, Alex and Becky Williams, Angela Curtis, Keith Williams, Cheryl and Shawn Whaley, Ginger Watson, Tammie Marler, David Williams, Ashley Williams, Brandon Williams, Aaron Williams, Jonathan Williams and Breanna Williams; several aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Mrs. Clara Bell Shipman Holland, age 64, of Dalton, departed this life Friday afternoon, Aug. 10, 2018 at the Erlanger Health Care in Chattanoog­a, Tenn. Clara was born Feb. 11, 1954 in Dalton, a daughter of the late John Vernie and Minnie Bell Petty Shipman. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roy, James Floyd and Walter Doc Shipman; sisters, Sue Waters and Peggy Carroll.

Clara was an extremely hard worker and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed good conversati­on and was always concerned about others. Her life was lived for others, especially her family. She attended the Resaca Church of God. She was employed at Nance Carpet in Calhoun.

She is survived by her true love, Earl Richard Holland of the residence; sons and daughtersi­n-law, Richard and Janice Holland of Dalton, Raymond and Andrea Holland of Cleveland, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Rayelyn and Skylar Holland, Brian and Crystal Jackson and Little Man Avery Tuck; brothers and sisters- in- law, Bob and Aletha Shipman, Johnny and Edna Shipman all of Cleveland, Tenn., Robert and Wanda Shipman of Chatsworth, Dennis Shipman of Sugar Valley, Luke and Marie Shipman of Dalton; sisters and brothers- in- law, Mary and Terry Ogle of Beaverdale, Ga., Jamie and Buddy Stover of Calhoun, Robbie and James Pickett of Dalton, Harland Waters of Conyers, and Sam Carroll of Resaca; aunts, Rosa Mae Petty Shipman of Dalton, and Nett Johns of Calhoun; several nieces, nephews and many other extended family.

Mr. Rellmon “RJ” “Rooster” Julius Shipman, 85, of Dalton, departed this life on Aug. 7, 2018 at Chatsworth Health Care in Chatsworth.

He was born in Whitfield County on May 22, 1933 to the late Albert A.V. and Beatrice Peek Shipman.

During RJ’s life he never met a stranger. He was a lifelong Whitfield County resident and was of the Baptist faith. He loved eating his Pork and Chicken. Mr. Shipman is preceded in death by siblings, Annie Jones, David and Floyd Shipman.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny William and Angie Shipman of Dalton; sisters, Bonnie Hight, Frances Powell, and Linda Brown all of Dalton, and Margie Mathis of Murray County; his companion and special friend, Lois Watkins and J. L. Brown and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of RJ Shipman was held on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. from the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Donald Shipman officiatin­g.

He was laid to rest at the Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with Gary Shipman, Buddy Shipman, Jimmy Parker, Cameron McAllister, Dustin McAllister, and Matthew McAllister all honored to serve as pallbearer­s.

The family received friends on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 between the hours of 5 until 9 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.

Mr. Cesar CarmonaMar­tinez, 43, of Calhoun, departed this life on Monday morning, Aug. 6, 2018 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.

Cesar was born in Westcheste­r, N. Y., the only child of the late Leticia Carmona Ricci.

He is survived by his uncle and devoted caretaker, George Carmona of Calhoun; several cousins, and other family and friends also survive.

At Cesar’s request, he will be cremated and no formal services will be held at this time.
