Mon­day Mar­ket is now open for business! The com­mu­nity is wel­comed to the South­ern Cruis­ers Riding Club in Rome. Gor­don County is part of our chap­ter’s catch­ment area. We are a group of fun lov­ing mo­tor­cy­cle en­thu­si­asts who en­joy get­ting to­gether to ride, eat and gen­er­ally en­joy each other’s com­pany. We gen­er­ally ride twice a month in North­west Ge­or­gia and North­east Alabama area and most rides are less than 500 miles. We meet ev­ery month for din­ner to dis­cuss up­com­ing rides. We are a group of all makes and mod­els of bikes. It’s not what you ride, it’s that you ride. We have no dues and no com­mit­ments. All we ask is that our mem­bers help sup­port our chap­ter by be­ing ac­tively in­volved in our rides and events. We ask that ev­ery­one re­mem­ber that safety is para­mount; ride safely and live to ride another day. We are a fam­ily-ori­ented riding group and do not per­mit any al­co­hol or drugs at any chap­ter ride. If you like to ride, we would like to have you ride with us. Ta­pes­try Hospice and Pal­lia­tive Care is spon­sor­ing Chip­per Jones Bob­ble­head night for the ROME Braves game on Aug. 24 at 7 pm. On Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., ed­u­ca­tors will ex­plore the topic of teach­ing writ­ing with lo­cal writer and ed­u­ca­tor, Martha Tem­ple­ton at the Cal­houn-Gor­don County Li­brary. In Ms. Tem­ple­ton’s ses­sion, “Stu­dents as Au­thors: Em­pow­er­ing Stu­dents with Words, with Au­di­ence, and with Voice,” ed­u­ca­tors will ex­plore the mer­its of an au­then­tic writ­ers’ work­shop as an av­enue for stu­dent ac­cess to lan­guage. Teach­ers will en­gage in model lessons, dis­cuss the mer­its of giv­ing stu­dents choice in writ­ing, ex­am­ine stu­dent work, dis­cuss the use of as­sess­ment tools to guide and as­sess the work, and ex­plore the power of in­di­vid­ual and group con­fer­ences in fa­cil­i­tat­ing stu­dent growth. These ses­sions (and GATESOL mem­ber­ship) are good for any teacher who has English learn­ers in their class­rooms! Class­room teach­ers are in­vited to join GATESOL and reg­is­ter for the ses­sions. On Satur­day, Aug. 25 Save Ge­or­gia’s Hem­locks will of­fer a train­ing class on how to save en­dan­gered hem­lock trees, a beau­ti­ful and im­por­tant fea­ture in our north Ge­or­gia com­mu­ni­ties.
