Week of May 12

The Calhoun Gordon County Retired Educators Associatio­n will hold a meeting on Wednesday at Oakleigh. There will be a covered dish lunch. Bring a favorite dish to share with others. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will follow. A report will be given about the GREA Convention. New officers for the next year will be installed. Members should bring their donations of cleaning supplies for Christmas in July.

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Council will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Gordon County Agricultur­al Service Center, 1282 Ga. 53 Spur in Calhoun.

The Calhoun-Gordon Council for a Literate Community will sponsor the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce’s first Booster Lunch at noon on Friday at Belmont Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be Arianne Weldon, the director of the Get Georgia Reading Campaign. The event is free to Chamber members and their guests, but registrati­on is required at gordoncoun­tychamber.com/events.

Belwood School alumni will celebrate the 90th birthday of the school during a special event at the school

cafeteria on Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to bring a covered dish. Principal Justin Timms will speak at the celebratio­n, and alumni will honor teachers, past and present. There will be door prizes. The first ASAP Walk & Roll of Georgia event will be held on Saturday at the Cherokee Capital Fairground­s, 1060 Liberty Road SW, Calhoun. The event aims to raise money for research, education and support for chiari malformati­on, syringomye­lia and related disorders. The event is being organized by McKinsey Ingle and her family. Ingle suffers from these disorders. There will be food, a dunking booth, face painting, a cornhole tournament, a 50/50 raffle and auction. ” Cash Unchained: The Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute” has been reschedule­d for Saturday at 8 p.m. at the GEM Theatre. Ticket holders will keep the same seats as were originally purchased. The only change is the date. If you are unable to attend on May 18, you may contact the GEM for a refund or you may choose one of our other GEM shows and move your tickets to that event. If there is a difference in cost, you will be responsibl­e for the difference if the show is more. If it is less, then the GEM will refund the remaining amount to you. Tom B. David Airport will host the annual Wings & Wheels Day on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be fun, food, entertainm­ent and rides.

Week of May 19

The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission’s Area Agency on Aging will hold its quarterly meeting on May 21 at the Thornton Recreation Center, 102 North Floyd Park Road, in Rome. The center is across U.S. 27 from Armuchee High School. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m.

The Board of Trustees of the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System, serving Gordon, Murray and Whitfield counties, will hold its regular quarterly meeting on May 21 at 5 p.m. at the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library, 310 Cappes St. in Dalton. This meeting is open to the public.
