Beginning Monday, Aug. 3, Tallatoona Community Action Partnership will begin accepting appointments for the LIHEAP CARES Cooling Assistance Program for the general public. All households that did not receive LIHEAP CARES Cooling Assistance during the month of July are eligible to apply for assistance with their electric bill. Households (including those previously assisted during the months of November 2019-June 2020) are eligible to schedule an appointment. The Highland Rivers Foundation Board of Directors will meet on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. via teleconference due to circumstances necessitated by pandemic conditions involving public safety. The meeting is open to the public. For additional information call 706-270-5000.

AdventHealth Gordon is hosting a virtual Living Well class featuring Julia Danforth, MD, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. online via a Zoom meeting. During this class, participants will learn about autoimmune diseases which are conditions where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s healthy cells, creating significant health issues. Danforth will discuss how different autoimmune diseases affect the body and what can be done to help. Tallatoona Community Action Partnership Inc. is hosting “Pathway to Empowerment,” a program that provides services and supports individuals and their families who are committed to changing their lives. Families can receive training and guidance regarding career pathways, education, financial literacy, job training and life skills development. The program is by appointment only. Celebrate Recovery meets every Tuesday at 100 Peter St., Suite 80, in Calhoun. A free dinner is served at 6 p.m., following by large group at 6:45 and small group at 8 p.m.
