The Family Resource Center of Gordon County and Prevent Child Abuse Gordon County may have canceled the 31st annual Mother-Daughter Christmas Tea fundraiser, originally set for Sunday, Dec. 6, but they are continuing with their toy and book drive.

In the past, mothers and daughters who attend the event have not only shared a light meal but also donated toddler’s toys and children’s books to benefit young people served by the Family Resource Center and Prevent Child Abuse Gordon. Though the meal has been cancelled due to safety concerns because of COVID-19, the toy and book drive is still happening.

“If you would still like to donate a toy for the event, you will be able to do so at Cotton & Twine until Saturday, Dec. 12, and at Belwood Nursery until Sunday, Dec. 13,” the center said in a statement on Friday. “We want to thank all who have supported this event in the past and those new this year.

We hope to have the event next year and hope to see you then.”

Cotton & Twine is at 116 Court St., Calhoun. Belwood Nursery is at 102 Stone Loop/ Highway 41 S.

Some suggested donation items include toddler-appropriate art supplies, games and puzzles, as well as infant and toddler books like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Goodnight Moon.”
