Winner’s Club gives kids a very merry Christmas
Calhoun’s Winner’s Club spread some holiday cheer this season — providing Christmas gifts for all of its members.
Right now, 31 kids are served by the Winner’s Club. Thanks to the support of the community, the Winner’s Club was able to give the gift of Christmas to each of them.
“They’re very excited about this year,” said Richard Lee, Executive Director.
Typically, the Winner’s Club aims to help out kids that need extra support, due to financial situations or mental, physical, or emotional challenges. They also offer administrative help, tutoring and educational help, and provide mentors for the children they assist.
“Our goal is for them to become contributing members of the community,” Lee said.
Their Christmas efforts start mid-October, where the Winner’s Club gathers the names of kids they’re going to help out that Christmas, and determines clothing sizes and what they’d like to get for Christmas.
That’s where members of the local community step in.
The Winner’s Club finds sponsors for the children, those who are able to provide a child’s Christmas wants and needs. Other ways community members help include donating general gifts and by offering monetary donations to the club.
With that help, they’re able to have a Christmas party in early December and can give each child a wonderful Christmas when the holiday comes.
“I just wanna thank this community, thank the businesses, everyone that helps,” Lee said.
Lee also said for several years now, the community has truly turned out for the kids of the Winner’s Club and helped each of them to see a really good Christmas.
