Hamilton opens new hearing, pediatric rehab site

- From Hamilton Medical Center

Hamilton Medical Center recently opened Hamilton Hearing Center at 1410 Chattanooga Ave., in Dalton, providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic hearing services.

The site also includes Hamilton Pediatric Rehabilitation, providing an array of pediatric services.

The building previously housed Looper Speech and Hearing, a nonprofit provider founded in 1969 to make specialized services more accessible to surrounding communities. As Looper made the decision to dissolve in late 2023, leaders chose to partner with Hamilton Health Care System, which created the new Hamilton Hearing Center to continue providing quality care for both existing and new patients.

“We’re honored to come alongside individuals with hearing challenges and ensure these vital services continue to be available in our community,” said Kevin

Roberts, director of Rehabilitation and Wellness Services. “Patients can receive the same quality services they are accustomed to as Dr. Katie McCreeryScarbor, the audiologist who previously worked for Looper, will continue serving patients from the same location now under Hamilton.”

In addition to diagnosing and treating hearing problems for children and adults of all ages, Hamilton Hearing Center helps patients select hearing aids, get fitted and receive follow-up adjustments and repairs.

The center provides a wide range of services, including auditory training and assistive listening devices, plus evaluation and treatment for tinnitus — a common condition in which patients experience ringing or buzzing inside their ears. The center also offers otoacoustic emission testing, a type of evaluation used to assess the health of the inner ear in patients of all ages, including infants; and auditory brainstem response testing, which can give practitioners information about the health of the brain pathways associated with hearing. Kathie Edwards, previously president of Looper Speech and Hearing Center, said serving the community has been an honor.

“As one of only a few nonprofits of its kind across the state, Looper provided well over 200,000 services to Northwest Georgia and touched the lives of more than 100,000 individuals across the region,” she said. “The Board of Directors and staff of the center have appreciated the trust placed in Looper through the years, and we’re thankful to everyone involved in supporting the transition to continue providing quality services through Hamilton Hearing Center.”

Hamilton Pediatric Rehabilitation, previously located within Bradley Whiteside Rehabilitation on Broadrick Drive, shares space with the new Hearing Center and will continue providing physical and occupational therapy services from the Chattanooga Avenue location, including services related to torticollis, fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration, spina bifida, sports injuries and more.
