EAST PROVIDENCE — The Cumberland wrestling team won the war, but lost two important battles Monday morning at East Providence.

The undefeated Clippers had no trouble sweeping league dual meets against the home-standing Townies and Westerly along with a non-league dual against D-II Toll Gate, but the Clippers dropped a pair of matches that will impact their seeding at next month’s state tournament.

Fresh off winning the John Gorman Invitational Saturday 170-pounder Jack Hayes dropped a 9-2 decision to Mario Peoples and Gorman second-place finisher Jeremy Batista couldn’t follow up an opening takedown with more points in a 10-5 defeat to Christian Hussey in a 120-pound weight class.

Cumberland’s other Gorman Invitational champion, 195-pound senior Nate Skawinski, remained undefeated, but he didn’t step foot on the mat. The senior took forfeits in all three of his matches.

Gorman Invitational finalist Kylie Creamer needed a late reversal in the third period of his match with Westerly’s Ethan Kador to post a 4-3 victory in the 132-pound weight class. Creamer also posted a 3-1 win against East Providence and a pin against Toll Gate.

Senior Moulaye Sangare, a thirdplace finisher Saturday, won all three of his 152-pound matches by pin.

Malik Sangare who won two matches by pin at 145 pounds, jumped out to a big lead on Westerly’s Jacob Schafer and held on for a 10-6 victory to complete a perfect morning.
