Police: Man charged after tirade
WOONSOCKET – A 31-year-old man is facing a litany of criminal offenses after throwing a violent fit in which he allegedly kicked one officer and assailed others with a shower of vulgar, sexually charged threats.
Ricardo Thomas Torres, 31, of 29 Birch St., was charged with 10 counts in all, including assaulting one policeman, threatening five others, domestic assault and several related crimes.
Police said Torres was taken into custody without incident about 1:30 Sunday morning after an incident in which he allegedly roughed up his ex-girlfriend at a residence on Northeast Street. She managed to get him out of the house, but after he allegedly broke down a storm door to get back in, she called police, who took him away.
After Torres was secured in a cell at police headquarters, police saw him on the floor shaking and they thought he was having a seizure of some sort. Police removed him from the cell and put him on a stretcher, at which point he allegedly kicked a policeman – then proceeded to brag about it.
The tirade allegedly continued after Torres was transported to Landmark Medical Center. Police say he repeatedly threatened them and members of their families as he kicked his legs and threatened to spit at them. For a time, Torres struggled with several police officers as he attempted to remove a “spit shield” that had been placed on his face.
Eventually, police said Torres was medicated by doctors at Landmark and he fell asleep.
