Saints commit 6 errors in loss

-

PAWTUCKET — The St. Raphael baseball team’s drop to D-II hasn’t gone as well as hoped.

After a mercy-rule loss to Smithfield to start the season, the Saints committed six errors Friday afternoon at Vets Park, as Scituate secured a 7-3 victory.

St. Raphael (0-2 Division II) received a pair of hits from Pat Fleming, while Justin Simmons, Braxton Fontaine and Rob Costa all scored runs, while Costa pitched three scoreless innings after starter Brendon Aldridge was done in by errors in the third and fourth innings.

Scituate starter Max Pierce pitched into the sixth inning to earn the victory, while senior catcher Michael Cronan delivered three hits and four RBIs.

The Saints are back in action Monday afternoon when they visit Blackstone Valley foe Mount St. Charles.

Microulis hurls Tigers to win

PAWTUCKET — The first pitch Tolman’s Peter Microulis threw in Friday’s game against Westerly was smacked for a double. The Bulldogs struggled to make contract with many of the senior’s next 79 pitches.

Microulis allowed a first-inning run and then he proceeded to hold the Bulldogs at bay over the next six innings to throw a complete-game six-hitter with seven strike outs. Tim Greene had two hits, drove in two runs and scored a run in a 7-1 Division II victory over the Bulldogs.

Tolman (1-0) entered the bottom of the first down a run, but Tim Greene gave the home side the lead for good with a two-run single to score Kyle Depatie and Ethan Bernardo. Westerly starter Thomas Algier then gave up a basesloaded walk to Justin Klemanchuck to plate Greene.

Microulis, who also had a pair of RBIs, increased the lead to four with an RBI triple in the fourth to plate Ben Capela. Microulis scored on a DePatie sacrifice fly and Bernado scored his second run on a suicide squeeze by Kyle Masse.
