Cooper leads Patriots past Burrillville

-

BURRILLVILLE — Just two days after scoring 30 runs at East Greenwich, the Burrillville softball team was shut down by Davies Tech sophomore Tanya Cooper.

The Patriot struck out 15 Broncos and held the home side to just four hits and two walks, while Sam Lisi had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two to lead the Patriots to a 6-1 Division II victory Friday afternoon.

“Very happy for my kids and they came to play today,” Davies coach Scott Cooper said. “We’re just going to try and build on the momentum of this when we play East Greenwich on Monday.”

Burrillville (1-1 Division II) saw starter Sam Bousquet pitch a complete game. She gave up six runs and 14 hits. The Broncos lone run came in the fourth inning when Cooper issued a lead-off walk and then Ally Simpson and Rebecca Arndt produced back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Dezarae Parkhurst followed with a line drive that Julianna Desautel snagged. The Patriot tried to double up Arndt, but her throw got away and a run scored. Cooper followed with a pair of strikeouts.

Davies (1-1 Division II) scored all the runs it would need in the third and it all started with a single from No. 9 hitter Paola Hernandez. Alaynah Rubio doubled the freshman to third and senior Kelsey Daigle followed with a two-run single. Daigle scored when Lisi reached on an error.
