MacColl YMCA will host Reviver Challenge obstacle course race
LINCOLN – Adventure seekers are invited to the seventh annual Reviver Challenge, set to take place at MacColl YMCA, 32 Breakneck Hill Road, Lincoln, on Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The race features a dozen obstacles ranging from climbing walls to crawling through ropes. This event is open to all ages and abilities.
According to Event Chair Catherine “Cat” Reyes, the event draws people from different avenues to make a difference in the lives of others while having fun.
“All participants will not only run a fun and challenging race, but will also have the privilege to give to several charities,” Said Reyes. “We moved the event to the YMCA last year, and we had a phenomenal turnout. The hope is to exceed the more than 500 participants from a year ago and raise even more money for these worthy causes.
The causes that Reyes alluded to include:
Mayan Families of Guatemala. They lack basic resources that people in our society take for granted like beds to get a good night’s rest, stoves on which to cook, and clean water. Proceeds from our race will go towards purchasing these types of items, which will help them tremendously in their daily lives. We are also taking up collections like stuffed animals and soccer supplies.
Kids in the Canyon: Designed by Founder Don Blais, this group of ambitious Central Falls High School students dedicate themselves to a 10-month intensive program serving their community, training to become strong hikers, and upholding good grades, with the conclusion of the program being a trailblazing trip to the Grand Canyon.
“This program gives kids who live in an urban environment an opportunity to experience another part of the country that they may not even know exists,” said Blais, who added that the continued financial backing of Navigant Credit Union helps fund the group. “It gives these kids a chance to expand their view of the world and reward them for their hard work throughout the year.”
Evan’s Crew: Towards a Cure In Memory of Evan T. Mandeville who lost his battle to Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma on November 13, 2012, when he was just 11 years old.
Reyes said she is looking for local merchants who are interested in sponsoring the event.
Tickets for this event are $50 for adults and $25 for people under 18. More information and registration by www.reviverchalvisiting:lenge.com or by contacting Reyes either by e-mail at reviverforall@gmail.com or by phone at: 401-356-4506.
