Connors, Cooper, Lisi lead Davies Tech to blowout victory

-

LINCOLN – Davies Tech exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the first, three coming on senior Sam Lisi’s three-run dinger, to coast to a 15-0 “mercy-rule” thumping of Division II foe Juanita Sanchez on Thursday.

Lisi finished 4-for-5 with five RBI, and junior Megan Connors 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sophomore Tanya Cooper helped her own cause, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, but also scattered just four hits with 10 strikeouts in the four-frame outing. Juanita Sanchez 000 00 –0–4–3 Davies Tech 913 2x – 15 – 11 – 0 Julisa Hernandez and Eriesmi Germosen; Tanya Cooper and Sam Lisi.

Torres guides Raiders to home win

PAWTUCKET – After transferring from Puerto Rico less than a year ago, sophomore hurler Ashley Torres has proved to be quite the find for Shea High.

She not only scattered four hits from the circle but also went 2-for-4 with two triples and a run scored as the Raiders tamed Paul Cuffee, 10-7, in a Division III matchup at Max Read Field on Thursday.

Sierra Soares closed at 1-for-4 with a run as Shea improved to 2-5 in league play.

It doesn’t get any easier, however, as the Raiders travel to Scituate for another league clash at 4 p.m., Monday. Paul Cuffee 002 022 1 –7–4–0 Shea 052 300 x - 10 – 4 – 0 Cecilia Prato, Camila Carrasco (4) and Camila Woel. Ashley Torres and Antonette Cooper.

Tigers lose heartbreaker to NK

PAWTUCKET – There’s no other way to say it: Tolman High has suffered some bitter losses this spring, but perhaps nine hit worse than its 3-1, nine-inning defeat to defending state Division I champion North Kingstown at Slater Park’s Bailey Field on Thursday.

The Tigers had trailed 1-0 until the top of the seventh, when they notched an unearned run to knot it.

The Skippers, however, took advantage of Caitlyn MacDonald’s suicide-squeeze bunt, one that plated Katelyn Haberle with what proved to be the clincher in the top of the ninth, and Izzy Broccoli’s RBI hit provided the insurance as Tolman fell to 0-7.

Kiara Oliver may have hurled a completegame three-hitter with a whopping 19 strikeouts, but senior righty Hannah Caliri assembled a terrific performance as well. She too went all nine frames, scattering eight hits, but she whiffed eight more.

NK escaped in the end and moved to 7-0 in league action (8-0 overall). North Kingstown 010 000 002 –3 – 8 – 2 Tolman 000 000 100 –1 – 3 – 3 Kiara Oliver and Hailey Hammick. Hannah Caliri and Brittney Baptista.
