Torres leads Central Falls to upset victory over Vikings

CENTRAL FALLS – Junior Marion Oferman hammered a three-run “tater” in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on another RBI hit in the sixth to propel Central Falls High to a satisfying 7-5 Division III triumph over Rogers at Macomber Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Oferman finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while classmate Rasec Torres went 4-for-4 with an RBI and run. Torres also took over in relief for starter Kelvin Almonte, yielding five hits and walk with seven whiffs in the final four frames, to gain the win.

The Vikings overcame a 5-1 deficit in the fourth with four runs, but the Warriors (2-4 league) fought right back with a run in the back half to regain the lead.

Mike Boushton took the loss for the Vikings.

** also gleaned the win on the hill. In five full frames (due to the Interschol­astic League's 10run mercy rule, he surrendere­d only six hits and four passes (both runs were unearned) and fanned a pair.

“He did an excellent job of getting ahead of hitters, which he's been doing all year,” noted skipper Andy Tuteken, whose club improved to 5-2 in league play. “He pitched to contact, and our defense did a great job behind him.”

The Clippers held a mere 1-0 advantage over the Cougars after three inning, but rallied for three in the fourth and a pair in the fifth to walk away with it. Fogell's batterymat­e, ripped a two-run single to plate Joe Milis and Fogell in the fourth, and Nick Croteau creamed a twoRBI hit in the fifth to plate namesakes Nick Crowe and Nick Larson.
