LINCOLN – Lincoln Police have identified the 43year-old man killed following a fight in Manville early Wednesday morning as Luis Perez, known to his friends as “Lou Lou.”

Perez, who lived in Manville, is survived by his wife and three children. On social media and a GoFundMe page, friends remembered Perez for his infectious smile and laugh.

Lincoln Police were called to the parking lot of 66 Summer St. at 1:17 a.m. on Wednesday for the report of a man lying on the ground. Perez was taken to Landmark Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Later on Wednesday, police arrested Brian Fraga, 33, and charged him with manslaughter. According to Lincoln Police Captain Philip Gould, Fraga and Perez had “hung out quite a bit” and were friendly but had a history of arguing.

Gould said they were having an argument inside Fraga’s apartment and took the fight outside around 1 a.m. Perez fractured his skull, and the Medical Examiners Office determined his cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

Fraga was arraigned in Third District Court on Wednesday afternoon and will have his next court appearance on May 16.

A friend of Perez’ wife on Wednesday set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with burial expenses.

Edward Hernandez, who had known Perez for more than 20 years, described his friend as “one of a kind” and said that no matter how long it had been since they’d last seen each other, Perez would greet him with a big smile, a laugh, and a hug or a handshake.

Hernandez described Perez as the type of person who would give you his last $5 if he had to.
