WOONSOCKET –A District Court judge ordered a city man held without bail Thursday on charges that he raped a 12-year-old girl after plying her with multiple shots of vodka.

Emmanuel Guzman, 29, of 222 Morin Heights Blvd., is charged with two counts of procuring or purchasing alcohol for a minor and one count of firstdegree child molestation.

Police reports say the alleged assault took place in mid-April after the girl went to an apartment at 542 East School St. for a sleepover with a female friend her own age.

But police first learned of the allegations on Wednesday, when the girl confided in the school resource officer at Villa Nova Middle School, Patrolman Joseph Brazil.

On the night of the sleepover, the alleged victim told police she drank approximately five shots of vodka with her friend’s parents, including Guzman and his girlfriend. Later she went back to her friend’s room “where they danced and talked about boys,” police reports say.

The girl told police she had been sleeping in her friend’s room when Guzman came in and asked her to leave with

him. She said Guzman started kissing her and took her into the bathroom, where they removed their clothing and got into the shower.

The two had sexual contact in the shower, then they got out and Guzman put the girl on the floor and had sex with her. The girl told Guzman she felt pain, but he didn’t stop, according to police reports.

The illicit encounter ended abruptly, however, when the two of them thought they heard someone waking up. At that point she ran back to her friend’s room and went to sleep.

The next morning, she told police, Guzman asked her if she remembered what happened.

After the story emerged at school, police transported the victim to police headquarters and took a statement from her in the presence of her mother. Then police went to Guzman’s apartment in the Morin Heights Family Housing Development and took him into custody shortly before 5 Wednesday afternoon.

After initially denying that he had had any sexual contact with the victim, Guzman allegedly confessed to police, providing them with a statement corroborating his accuser’s story. He also told police he made a trip to the liquor store after the alleged victim had arrived for a sleepover with his daughter, a statement that apparently accounts for the fact that police charged him with two counts of purchasing or procuring alcohol for a minor.

Guzman, who was arrested for drunk driving in Pawtucket earlier this year, is held at the Adult Correctional Institutions until at least May 18. That’s when he’s due back in court for a bail review hearing, according to the judiciary’s web site.
